It is with profound sadness that I learned of the untimely passing of my childhood friend, O.P. Malik—our beloved “Laala.”
We grew up together in the lanes of Delhi, sharing a friendship built on carefree days, endless cricket matches, and dreams of the future. Laala was one of the brightest among us, later graduating with Honours in Chemistry from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College.
Some of my fondest memories are of visiting his home to listen to Nazia Hassan’s Disco Deewane on the HMV LP record player his father had bought. We also spent many evenings studying together in the little study loft at his home, never imagining how quickly time would pass and our paths would eventually diverge.
Around the year 2000, life took us in different directions. Laala moved to the United States, and with his visits to India becoming fewer, we gradually lost touch. Yet, some friendships never truly fade—they simply become treasured memories.
I was devastated to hear of his passing. It is a painful reminder of how precious and fleeting life is.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. May they find strength and solace during this difficult time.
May God grant eternal peace to his noble soul.
ॐ शान्तिः
