OmFest

​Om Malik passed away on June 24, 2026, at Stanford Hospital after a long health journey with his heart. He was surrounded by family and friends.

​Join us to celebrate his life on September 29, 2026 (his 60th birthday) for OmFest (he loved a good festival!) This event is open to every community from the many facets of Om to come together.

In the spirit of Open Source and co-creation, we will have some booths, flash talks, a gallery of his photography, a pen showcase, and whatever other fun ideas people want to contribute. I can’t wait for the beautiful collision of his tech journalism / Indian party planner / pen / coffee / shoes photography circles, and probably some niches I can't even imagine.

Registration is $9.29 (his birthday), mainly so we can get an accurate headcount. This isn't a fundraiser; while we don't expect a surplus, anything that is will go to UCSF in Om's honor.

Come for a few hours or spend the whole day with us. OmFest is designed to be explored at your own pace. Schedule subject to change.

Start the day with coffee and breakfast, explore the space, and discover the many worlds of OmFest.

​10–11am | Present Future: Part I
Welcome to OmFest, followed by three short talks from people paying close attention to what’s happening now, and what it might tell us about what’s coming next.

​11am–12pm | Explore & Connect
Wander through the photography and exhibits, spend some time writing at Field Notes, grab another coffee, and meet someone new.

​12–2pm | Lunch
Eat, wander, explore, and connect. OmFest continues around you.

​2–3pm | Present Future: Part II
Three more voices, three more ideas worth paying attention to now.

​3–5:30pm | An Open Afternoon
Settle in or keep exploring. Join a tea ceremony, discover something you missed, write at Field Notes, or simply spend time in conversation.

​5:30–7pm | Flash Talks, Cocktails & a Toast to Om
We’ll gather for a series of flash talks and stories from people who knew Om best, and a toast to what would have been his 60th birthday.

​7–9pm | DesiParty
We’ll end where one of Om’s earliest worlds began: with music. A celebration inspired by his DesiParty days in New York, with DJs, dancing, drinks, late-night bites, and plenty more to discover.
