Also meiner Familie und meiner Fußball-Familie in Hamilton."

AM alpha and a German pension fund make a joint investment in Glasgow

Jan 22, 2020

• Successful acquisition of office property in the Central Business District
• Focus remains on European value-add investments

Munich, January 16, 2020 --( ASIA TODAY )-- The Munich-based family office AM alpha, which specializes in joint real estate investments with private and institutional investors, announces the acquisition of a Glasgow office property that was effected in the middle of last year.

Constructed in a sophisticated architectural style in 2004, the nine-story office building is situated in a prime location and offers approx. 7,360 m² of rental space as well as 31 parking spaces. At present, the building is rented out to the international insurance group Chubb Services and the design and engineering services provider Atkins.

Located in the International Financial Services District (IFSD), a submarket of the CBD, the property has excellent transport connections. Via the M8 motorway, which runs from Glasgow to Edinburgh, the airport can be reached in approx. 15 minutes. The central train station is less than 10 minutes on foot. Thanks to its exposed location on the river Clyde, the property can also be reached via the bicycle path running along the riverbank.

In regards to the investment strategy, Martin Lemke, Managing Director of AM alpha, explains: “The acquisition in Glasgow underlines our macroeconomic factor-based investment approach which is not swayed by temporary occurrences. Glasgow is undergoing a highly positive development, not least thanks to various strategic measures taken by the city council. Above-average corporate growth and a significant decline in unemployment are evidence of this. In contrast to other big cities in the United Kingdom, small and medium-sized companies are also growing and the upswing translates into lively demand for office space in all size ranges. This market environment is particularly attractive when it can be combined with added value opportunities through active asset management, which is the case here.” Aside from Europe, AM alpha also concentrates on value-based investments in the Asia-Pacific region.

CA Ventures makes senior hire for European BTR market

Real estate company CA Ventures is entering the Build to Rent (BTR) sector in Europe with the appointment of Tim Phillips as Head of Residential Europe.

Based in London, Phillips will be responsible for the development of BTR and Private Rented Sector (PRS) assets across Europe, starting with the UK. CA Ventures is committed to initially investing in the development of GBP200m in BTR and PRS assets in Europe per annum, ramping up to GBP380 million by 2025.

Phillips has over 14 years’ experience in the real estate industry, most recently as a Director at Lothbury Investment Management. There he led a corporate expansion into the residential sector; establishing, promoting and raising capital for a new investment vehicle in order to acquire, develop and operate PRS and BTR assets.

The move follows CA Ventures’ launch into the European PBSA market, where the company is currently executing GBP500m of development. This includes three developments under construction, which will deliver 888 beds in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Sheffield.

Carlo Matta, Head of Europe, CA Ventures, says: “Tim’s appointment comes as the residential housing market across Europe continues to evolve. We are seeing a shift from ownership to renting and we expect this trend to continue over the coming years, especially as there is growing demand for more flexible living arrangements.

“We believe there is enormous potential in a sector that is seeing record levels of year-on-year investment and, with over a decade in the industry, I’m fully confident Tim will successfully lead the CA Ventures team’s expansion into the sector.”

Phillips adds: “CA Ventures is looking to build on its successful launch in Europe by diversifying across asset classes and sees great opportunities in the Build to Rent sector. By developing long-term focused assets of the highest quality, with the best locations and professionally managed, I firmly believe that CA Ventures can deliver institutional grade returns for investors. I am delighted to be supporting its vision for the sector in Europe.”

Xenobots are here: Tiny bio-robots inside your veins may heal you & will definitely be weaponized by West to take out ‘bad guys’

Peter Andrews is an Irish science journalist and writer, based in London. He has a background in the life sciences, and graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in Genetics

Xenobots — tiny, biological robots swarms designed by a computer — are upon us. What does the birth of these strange not-quite-alive creatures mean for robotics — and for us?

Real robots are not two-legged steel boxes with a metallic voice
Mankind has been imagining advanced robot technology for a long time — pop culture is full of Terminators, Cylons, and Droids. But in fact, these humanoid designs show a distinct lack of imagination. Why have we always assumed that robots would be designed to have the same basic form as us: slightly ungainly primates trotting about on two feet, perhaps even toting a gun? The latest models make that particular notion look a bit 1950s

One such model are the fearsome xenobots unleashed by American scientists a this week. These are biological robots less than a millimetre wide, that can move, release a payload and repair themselves. Grown from stem cells (cells that can turn into any type of body cell) that were cut into specific shapes designed by a supercomputer, they can swim inside the human body for weeks on end, working together to achieve a task.

They can walk and swim, meaning they are just one sport short of a triathlon. On top of all this, they have one more superpower — Wolverine’s healing factor. Well, it may not be ripped from Marvel comics, but they can repair themselves without any help. And when the poor little xenobots reach the end of their short but glorious lives (are they alive?) inside your body, you can rest easy with the thought that since they are entirely organic, they will biodegrade naturally. What could be more comforting than artificial creatures dying inside your veins made of nothing but harmless African clawed frog DNA?

2020: the year to get money where it matters

More new initiatives, such as the Global Commission on Adaptation’s Locally Led Adaptation Action Track, are beginning to recognise the critical role of poor and marginalised people in tackling the climate emergency. From the Gobeshona conference, Andrew Norton and Saleemul Huq explain why a reimagined climate finance system that gets money into the hands of those people must be high on the 2020 ‘super year’ agenda.

For climate and sustainable development policy, 2020 is the most important year since 2015 and the signing of the Paris Agreement. In less than ten months' time when climate negotiators meet in Glasgow at COP26, they will be charged with reaching agreements and raising ambitions high enough to realise the promises of Paris, which pledged to bring the escalating climate emergency under control.

But for the 2020 ‘super-year’ to truly deliver, decision makers must recognise the interconnected nature of the global challenges we face: the climate emergency is intertwined with rising inequality, ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss. Only systemic change can tackle such complexity. There are no silver bullets.

Central to this systemic change is ending the marginalisation of poor women and men from decision making, finance, resources and essential services (such as water, sanitation and so on).

Investing in locally driven solutions – where communities are engaged in decisions on how investments are spent – not only addresses this marginalisation of the voices that matter most, but can also tackle the interlinking crises more effectively, efficiently and accountably.

Emerging shifts must embrace ‘business unusual’

Climate finance – money to help developing countries reduce emissions and adapt to climate change – is the ideal ‘lubricant’ to set this systemic change in motion. But IIED has shown that less than 10% of global climate funds prioritised local action between 2003-16.

And that which is delivered is directed to short term interventions by distant ‘experts’, accountable to donors and aid agencies rather than to communities.

These donors and aid agencies tend to engage and listen first to the priorities of powerful stakeholders rather than those of the most vulnerable – despite abundant evidence that communities impacted by climate change often know how best to spend the money.

But, the tide is beginning to turn…

Global initiatives are increasingly recognising the critical role of local communities in addressing the climate, biodiversity and poverty crisis. For example, the Asian Development Bank’s Community Resilience Partnership Programme, launched in September, builds on IIED’s 'Money where it matters' programme and initiatives of Slum Dwellers International (SDI) and the Huairou Commission among others. And this week at the Gobeshona conference in Bangladesh, the Global Commission on Adaptation will launch its Locally Led Adaptation Action Track.

For these global and regional initiatives to address the quality and quantity of climate finance reaching the local level, they must set the bar for what ‘business unusual’ really looks like.

Practical framework puts people at its core

Throughout 2020, IIED and partners will continue to champion the 'Money where it matters' framework. Through decades of research and on-the-ground support, the framework reimagines the climate finance landscape. It provides practical solutions to overcome donors’ and aid agencies’ real and perceived challenges in financing locally driven climate action at scale.

Importantly, this framework is embedded in local, poor and marginalised people’s lived experiences from rural and urban contexts. It covers many sectors – from energy to forestry – and operates across formal and informal markets. The framework ensures local communities remain at the heart of the systemic shift from business-as-usual to business unusual.

A graphic showing how climate finance filters through the system

The framework is built on the following key elements:

  • Grounding principles for good governance: 15 principles set out how good climate finance is governed. This was validated at London Climate Week with local partners including the Huairou Commission, SDI, WIEGO (Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing) and the Least Developed Countries' Universities Consortium for Climate Change (LUCCC).
  • Mechanisms that deliver: we have identified a set of approaches that enable state, private sector and civil society institutions to deliver – at scale – flexible climate finance that is in line with local communities’ priorities while also tackling fundamental governance challenges.

Many are already addressing the poverty and biodiversity crises alongside climate change. Examples include decentralised climate funds, decentralised renewable energy schemes, forest and farm producer organisations and slum dweller urban poor funds. These mechanisms are led by, or place most decisions into the hands of, poor and vulnerable communities.
  • The right enabling environment: delivering climate finance to the local level is complex and cannot work in isolation. We seek to help governments create, and civil society and private sector advocate for, the surrounding policy, governance, safeguards, knowledge and learning context to support poor and marginalised people lead informed and deliberative decisions about their future under socio-economic and climate uncertainty.
  • Measuring success: one of the largest barriers to financing locally driven climate action is being able to track the finance to the ground, and to learn from the many benefits – and challenges – of local activities.

IIED is working with partners to develop top-down and bottom-up solutions to the monitoring, learning and tracking of local climate action. This includes research to ensure digital technologies empower rather than disempower poor and marginalised people.
  • Addressing the ‘missing middle’: Currently, donors and aid agencies do not provide finance on suitable terms to deliver locally led climate action. 'Money where it matters' can support donors and aid agencies to reform existing or create new climate funds for incubating this reimagined climate finance system.

Over the coming months IIED and partners will publish briefings setting out each of these elements. And throughout 2020 we will deepen this framework and support donors, governments, private and civil society actors to implement it.

We know the framework isn’t perfect and throughout this process we will work closely with community representatives from the frontlines to continue to strengthen the approach. In the meantime, we’re championing the framework here at Gobeshona.

As the GCA launches its Locally Led Adaptation Action Track (on Wednesday, 23 January) we will be encouraging donors, aid agencies and governments to step forward with truly ‘business unusual’ approaches for getting money where it matters.

With thanks to Marek Soanes, who contributed to this blog. Marek leads the 'Money where it matters' programme.

More to Glasgow Warriors' Champions Cup exit than Saracens scandal

ANGER at Saracens’ flagrant breach of English rugby’s salary-cap rules, initially confined to their own country, has now become far more widespread, and understandably so. It emerged last week that the London club will be relegated at the end of this season as they will inevitably break the cap again, but for the time being they continue to enjoy success on the field, and on Sunday qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup, a trophy they hold.

Roger Hodgson is Bringing his World Wide Breakfast in America Tour Down Under!
Special Announcement of March and April 2013 Tour

After being away for two years, Roger returns to Australia for a highly anticipated exclusive tour of six shows in March and April 2013!  Australians have been asking for Roger’s return, and we have been listening! You have Roger back and this time, with his full band!  Roger says, “I am very happy to be returning to Australia – I felt so welcomed when I was there in 2010.  It was a great tour and I am really looking forward to sharing my music with all of you again.”

Universally recognized as one of the most gifted composers and songwriters to have ever put pen to paper, Hodgson helped define a generation of progressive rock.  Founding Supertramp in 1969, Hodgson’s dulcet tones and beautifully crafted lyrics helped his former band sell in excess of 60 million albums, transforming them into a worldwide phenomenon.  Although he departed the band in 1983, for many he is still regarded as the spiritual and creative force behind Supertramp.
Join Roger as he and his band perform the timeless classics he wrote and composed such as “The Logical Song,” “Breakfast in America,” “Give a Little Bit,” “Dreamer,” “School,” “Take the Long Way Home,” “It's Raining Again,” “Child of Vision,” “Even in the Quietest Moments,” “Fool's Overture” as well as favorites from his solo albums such as “In Jeopardy,”  “Only Because of You,” and “Lovers in the Wind.”
See what the press had to say when Roger last toured Australia in April 2010:
“Roger Hodgson is one of the contemporary pop worlds great talents and it’s well worth making the effort to see his show, pay homage and be thoroughly entertained by a quality individual. His performance was exemplary. Vocally he seems actually stronger and more assured than when he was a younger man making multi million selling albums. His guitar playing and keyboard work was superb.” ~ Hey Hey My My
“If you were ever a fan of Supertramp then attending a Roger Hodgson concert these days is as good as it gets and it gets good.  As the principal songwriter of Supertramp and lead singer of the songs he wrote, Hodgson solo sounds exactly like Supertramp which is a good thing.  The Roger Hodgson setlist reads like a history of music.” ~ Undercover
Additional details will be announced soon for Roger’s March and April 2013 Tour of Australia. Be watching the Tour page on Roger’s site at and his Facebook page at

French Tour ~ C’est Magnifique!

Roger’s French tour has just finished and it has been very special! Roger’s last performance was a sold out show in Nantes tonight and with that he says Au Revoir... This was Roger’s first Provincial tour since his last tour with Supertramp in 1983 and as a special treat he’s performed songs that the French Fan Club requested to include in his set lists.  For more stories and experiences of fans that attended the French shows, please visit

“La Porte des Alpes in a State of Grace” is a wonderful review of Roger’s Grenoble show in French – or translated into English on our site.

Click here to read a wonderful review for Roger’s July 27th Les Voix du Gauo show from his 2010 World Tour.

And here’s a short, but so sweet, review of Roger’s recent show in Tours:

The soul of Supertramp

He's the writer and lead singer of the mythical group

Supertramp. Even when performing solo, Roger Hodgson

sent shivers down my spine.

It was probably not by chance that Roger Hodgson yesterday began his French tour in Tours. The local audience does not have the reputation of being, how can I put it, the ‘hottest’! And when 2000 fans of the legendary group from the years 1975-80, Supertramp, found themselves sitting on their numbered seats to see Roger Hodgson alone on stage - or almost - one feared the worst. Well, no! It took just a few piano notes, and that well-known voice in a million, for Roger Hodgson to take us on a long journey back to our teenage memories. He even brought the entire audience to their feet with "Dreamer." I have dreamed of seeing that for a long time. Roger did it. Thank you, Sir!

And, You can visit Roger's French Tour Blog, the Guestbook, Roger’s Facebook and the wonderful French Fan club site to read fans’ experiences of his September shows, here’s a short sampling:

“Dear Roger,? It's hard to express the emotions that you gave us last night in Toulouse. Can you imagine that your music is a great part of my live since I'm 8 years old. My first disc ever was Breakfast in America, and since then all of your songs have followed my instants of joy, of sadness, of love. Though you wouldn't like me to tell that, your are one the greatest composers and singers of all times. And yesterday you and Aaron reached the perfection in the way you played your songs!? "Hide in your shell" was so moving. "Dreamer" and "Logical song" literally put in trance the audience. Thank you for having played "Surely", a song that looks like you, pure, simple and eternal. Oh, I could speak of all the songs, every single one is a jewel…”?

~ Marc

“The feast of love...! Thank you for Roger’s performance yesterday in Paris.  Brilliant! My English is too poor for describe all details of last night.  So I offer you my profoundest impressions at least.  I ask myself often how come? What is it what radiate of Roger’s soul?  It is not only his incredible beautiful, clear & inimitable voice.  It’s love first of all…then humility.  He pretends nothing. He is what he is. Bringing not only his own person into focus, but making us feel it’s you who is most important, the center of his attention, and love.”

~ Marie

“When celebrity and talent go well with humility and humanity ...

I was present yesterday at your Paris concert and I would like to congratulate you. I was particularly sensitive to your legendary talent and behavior.  No doubt that it is heart that makes you move forward. You have definitively chosen the best way and we will always remember yours songs and life philosophy especially during hard times. You’re a success story and what you have decided to do with it will always remain as an example which inspires us! "Bravo" and do not change anything!  To conclude, we sincerely hope that you will not wait another 25 years time before coming back to Paris for a concert!  So see you very soon!  All the best!”

~ Gisèle

For Those Wondering why Roger is not on the 40th Anniversary Tour with Supertramp…

We are still getting emails from fans wondering why Roger isn't doing any special reunion shows for the 40th anniversary tour with Supertramp. So, for any of you that didn’t get the previous newsletters or haven’t read them again recently, please click here to read excerpts along with other articles where Roger has already shared about how he offered many times to join Rick and Supertramp for a few special reunion shows.

First of all, Roger wants everyone to know that his heart goes out to all his fans that have really wanted to see a reunion happen. As he shared in June “I enjoy the way I’m performing my music now more than ever, yet I know that it means a lot to the fans to see me on stage with Supertramp again and I feel it’s the right thing to do.  It is because of the fans’ wishes I have offered, it’s my way of saying thank you to the fans for their support of our music all these years. None of us would be here if it weren’t for the fans.”

We feel part of the reason people are still wondering why a reunion show is not happening may be because Rick has never told the public about Roger’s many offers and how Rick & Sue made the decision to decline. When Roger found out about the 40th anniversary tour and all the requests from fans for Roger to reunite with the band started pouring in, he made his first offer to Rick to do a few special reunion shows.  Since then he has offered many times and has sincerely tried to give the fans what you have been asking for.

Basically, Roger sent letters to Rick and he said no. We talked to their agent and they said no again.  And still more fan requests were coming in for Roger to join for the 40th anniversary and since Rick and Sue Davies wouldn’t communicate with Roger, we talked to several promoters and they very much wanted it to happen so we had them talk to Rick and Sue, but they came back and said it’s an absolute no.  Roger’s idea was to do at least one reunion show in each country and he kept his October calendar open for the possibilities

Bottom line, it’s not happening because Rick and Sue said no and wouldn’t communicate with Roger about it. He thought at least they would be willing to do a few special reunion shows for the fans, it seems that would have been a very feasible thing to do and Roger can’t see any reason why that couldn’t have happened. So, Roger just wants the fans to know directly from him that he really did all he could because he truly understands why so many fans want to see him together with Supertramp on stage again.

One of the reasons Roger continues to make music after all these years is because of his love for the fans and your love for his music and if there was any way it could have been possible to bring them the few special reunion shows with Supertramp that you wanted, he would have done it but it just wasn’t possible.

Roger will be writing more to you all about this and answering more of your questions, as soon as he’s had a little break from his French tour.

Roger sends his love to everyone.

¡Pues no!

“Hide in your shell” fue tan emocionante.

No finge nada.

¡Bravo y no cambies nada!

Möglichkeiten in Aktivismus verwandeln
