Making Real Life Connections in Business

After learning about various careers and labor unions, students in Matthew Herrschaft's and Sheila Smith's business classes at Bellport High School traveled to Jamaica, Queens to visit the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 15 training center. During the field trip, the students learned about construction union benefits and visited different training areas for a variety of careers. This valuable experience assisted the students in making classroom connections to real-life experiences in the business world.

Comment on Family Reunions: Coming Together & Going Home by De'Mona Reid

If I wrote a book on the times my family has gotten together for a reunion, I think it would be a best seller! My family is from Jamaica, my siblings and I, along with our cousins, are first-generation Americans. When all the older cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents get together, it's like being transported to Jamaica. Everyone's accents change, and the food on the stove is almost always Jamaican. Oxtails, rice & peas, curry chicken, cabbage, plantains the list goes on! Our last family-reunion was in 2017. My mother and aunt were in charge of planning. It turned out wonderful. Being that my mother was in charge, I had to help, of course. The reunion was held in Georgia somewhere in Henry County. We rented a facility and planned outdoor games. Everyone said it was the best reunion ever! We are all waiting for the day a family reunion is held in Jamaica. One of my favorite books about family gatherings is "One Crazy Summer By: Rita Williams-Garcia. I remember reading it as a young girl and enjoed the exhanges between the sisters and mother.

Black music cultures in London

Black music culture: Laurie talks to Caspar Melville, Lecturer in Global Creative and Cultural Industries at SOAS, about his study of the musical life which emerged in post-colonial London at the end of the twentieth century – from reggae and soul in the 1970s, to rare groove and rave in the 1980s and jungle in the 1990s. They're joined by Kim-Marie Spence, Post Doctoral Student at Solent University, Southampton, who explores the mixed fortunes of reggae and dancehall within Jamaica and beyond. 25 November 2019 | The Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has joined a legal effort to defend the Caribbean nation’s so-called anti-buggery laws as well as other legislation that bans same-sex sexual acts. The Jamaica Observer reported that the Adventist denomination is joining a group of 10 churches called the Christian […]

Book Review: Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams

Title: Queenie Author: Candice Carty-Williams Genre: Fiction Publisher: Orion Publishing Publication date: March 19 2019Hardcover: 330 pages Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Americanah in this disarmingly honest, boldly political, and truly inclusive novel that will speak to anyone who has gone looking for love and found something very different in its place. Queenie Jenkins is a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. She works at a national newspaper, where she’s constantly forced to compare herself to her white middle class peers. After a messy break up from her long-term white boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places…including several hazardous men who do a good job of occupying brain space and a bad job of affirming self-worth. As Queenie careens from one questionable decision to another, she finds herself wondering, “What are you doing? Why are you doing it? Who do you want to be?”—all of the questions today’s woman must face in a world trying to answer them for her. Stand alone or series: Stand alone How did I get this book: Bought Format (e- or p-): Audiobook (and it is AWESOME) Review I am not really sure how to even begin to […]

LGBT Human Rights

Welcome to the third edition of OutRight’s program newsletter! Through it we want to share with you insight and highlights of some of the work that your support has helped our programs team to carry out in recent months, and the impact that work has on the lives of LGBTIQ people around the world. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but rather a shortlist of highlights.

We hope you find this informative and interesting. As always, we welcome your feedback, your comments and questions!

OutRight’s study into Arabic Media published in 2017 showed that LGBTIQ people and surrounding issues are predominantly reported highly negatively in Arabic media. Although strong conservative influences in society have a strong role to play in this, as does the prevalence of legislation criminalizing same-sex relations across the region, we also learned that a lack of understanding and knowledge among journalists about the lived realities of LGBTIQ people was an important factor in how they reported on the topic.

While the road to legislative and policy change in the region may be a long, and risky one, raising awareness and understanding among journalists seemed like a relatively safe avenue to take with potentially high returns in terms of changing hearts and minds about LGBTIQ people and issues.

We took this learning and, in cooperation with the Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality, embarked on a project aimed at tackling this problem. Through a number of trainings 50 journalists from across the region have been trained so far in sessions aiming to raise awareness and knowledge, debunk myths and stereotypes about LGBTIQ people, and sexual orientation and gender identity more broadly, and report on gender, sexuality, and numerous topics related to issues faced by LGBTIQ people, in an inclusive way which promotes understanding, rather than perpetuates negative stereotypes.

We also launched an informal network between the journalists who took part, in order to facilitate information exchange and support among them and thus, hopefully, grow the impact they can have in their respective media outlets and countries.

The influence of media on the knowledge and opinions of their readers of viewers is immense. As such, through this project we not only improved the knowledge and understanding of 50 journalists, but the subsequent changes in their reporting have the potential to have a far-reaching ripple effect on their audiences, with time, slowly, changing the dominant negative perceptions and prejudices about LGBTIQ people.

Domestic and family violence continues to be a reality for LGBTIQ people around the world, and much of it goes unreported for fear of outing, stigmatization or even imprisonment in countries where same-sex relations are still a crime – such as Myanmar.

With support from Open Society Foundations, and in partnership with Equality Myanmar and the Myanmar LGBT Rights Network (a coalition of 26 LGBT groups), OutRight launched a project to improve domestic violence and family violence protections and services for LGBTIQ people in the country.

Through capacity building of LGBTIQ groups on topics such as data collection, an awareness campaign, and sensitization of members of parliament we have been working to promote zero tolerance for domestic and family violence targeting LGBTIQ people. Moreover, as a draft Prevention of Violence Against Women Law is currently under consideration, the project has aimed to strengthen collaboration between LGBTIQ groups and a coalition of women's organizations to push for a non-binary definition of gender and inclusion of explicit reference to protections from domestic and family violence for LGBTIQ people in the law.

So far, a dialogue with lesbians, bi-women and transmasculine persons was held to increase diversity of people covered by the project. At least six participants signed up to participate in a subsequent training on documentation of domestic and family violence among LGBT communities, showing the interest in and need for such work. The latter took place over four days, with 12 participants, on how to conduct interviews and gather data on domestic and family violence among LGBT families.

The LGBT Rights Network is just about to launch a questionnaire for documenting violence in LGBT communities with an aim to receive responses from over 400 LGBT people, which will inform and shape the project going forward.

Gender-based violence is a reality affecting women, LGBTIQ people who do not fit within the narrow parameters of the assigned societal gender roles, and even men, across the world. In the Caribbean, where more than half the countries still criminalize same-sex relations, the prevalence of gender-based violence against LGBTIQ people is staggering, and due to the criminalization and stigma that LGBTIQ people face, victims of gender-based violence tend not to report it or to seek support.

We wanted to change that, so together with partners in the region OutRight launched the “Frontline Alliance: Caribbean Partnerships Against Gender Based Violence.” The network includes organizations from across the Caribbean and aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of gender based violence against women and LGBTIQ people, to train engage first responders and service providers on how to ensure inclusivity of LGBTIQ people, as well as to engage local government officials with a view to improving policies and protocols designed to tackle gender-based violence.

So far OutRight has already hosted training of trainers sessions in Haiti, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Antigua to address gender-based violence against women and LGBTIQ people in the Caribbean. By the end of the project over 200 people will be trained, who will be able to directly implement the learning into their day to day work, thus immediately being able to support LGBTIQ victims.

Furthermore, a number of trainers have also been trained, and several more will receive the training in the coming months, on the topic. They will continue to pass this knowledge on to ever more first responders or service providers, casting the net of impact on the lives of LGBTIQ people ever farther.

Caribbean attendees at the 2019 Frontline Alliance: Caribbean Partnerships Against Gender Based Violence.

A key partner of the majority of our work at the UN is the LGBTI Core Group, a network of cross-regional states which have committed to collaborating within the New York-based UN system to raise awareness and promote progress for equality of LGBTIQ people.

In August the LGBTI Core Group adopted its latest workplan for the year 2019/2020, in it officially including OutRight as the group's secretariat. This status will enable us to work even closer with the group to ensure ever more progress is achieved in the promotion and protection of the human rights of LGBTIQ people through UN mechanisms and processes.

In August we released a groundbreaking report exposing the global reach of so-called conversion therapy practices seeking to change, suppress, or divert one’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. As discussions in some countries in Latin America, Australia, Europe and North America about banning so-called conversion therapy have intensified, awareness of the practices in these regions has grown. However, next to nothing was known about similar practices in other parts of the world.

Our report changes that. It is the first-ever global survey on the topic, with input from 500 survey responses from across the world, 19 in depth interviews with survivors from 11 countries, an extensive literature review, as well as in-depth conversations with experts.

Our report overwhelmingly shows that so-called conversion therapy happens across the world, predominantly promoted and perpetrated by people acting in the name of religion or pseudo-healthcare, often with pressure or even coersion by families. While the practices may vary due to religious, cultural, or traditional norms and contexts, they are harmful and never work; instead, they cause deep, lasting trauma that affects every realm of life.

Such practices are the epitome of what the LGBTIQ movement has been fighting, and symptomatic of just how much of an uphill battle we still have to fight to gain acceptance and equality. We hope that this report will shed much needed light on the global prevalence of these barbaric practices, and incite ever more countries to seek ways of not only banning “conversion therapy”, but finding genuine, sustainable ways to ensure LGBTIQ people have true and sustainable access to their full human rights, and ensuring that the misinformation, prejudice and perceptions of the norm which drive families and individuals to seek conversion therapy are eradicated for good.

On Sunday, 30 June 2019, 50 years after the spontaneous riots in protest against police raids and shaming of LGBTIQ people at the Stonewall Inn gave rise to the contemporary LGBTIQ and Pride movement, New York City hosted the World Pride March.

Over 150 partners, supporters and friends registered to join OutRight in taking part in the march on Sunday June 30th. The march was rumored to include 6 million participants, and took over 12 hours. OutRight used the opportunity to draw attention to challenges that LGBTIQ people and movements still face around the world.

OutRight has continued to appear in media outlets. Here are a few recent examples:

Deportation of Nigerian Nationals and Interesting Judicial Decisions

In the news

With an election on the horizon, a coalition of 29 women and human rights organisation has published a manifesto for women and girls. Their stated goals are to “end violence against women and girls”; “secure women’s equal representation in politics”; “promote equality in the workplace and in the home”; “invest in public services”; and “lift women and children out of poverty”. To achieve these goals, they propose measures including a new ‘Violence Against Women and Girls’ bill to lay before Parliament; funding for high-quality sex and relationships education; improvements to the criminal justice system regarding allegations of rape and sexual assault; equal pay; increased maternity pay and maternity allowances; an end to pregnancy discrimination; and a strengthening of the law on sexual harassment at work, creating a duty on employers to prevent harassment from occurring. The manifesto is available here.

The backlash against internet intermediaries and ‘surveillance capitalism’ continues this week. Amnesty International have released a report entitled ‘Surveillance Giants’, which analyses in detail the human rights threats posed by Facebook, Google, and other technology corporations. The report is available here. Meanwhile, in the courts, Singh LJ granted Ed Bridges permission to appeal the facial recognition judicial review which he lost in September, noting that Mr Bridges’ appeal had a reasonable prospect of success.

Parents in Oxford have won the right for a secular alternative to traditional religious worship in schools, in a legal battle funded by Humanists UK against the Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust, the Guardian reports. The parents say that other schools will follow suit, while the Oxford trust insists this was a pragmatic decision to avoid excessive costs. The Department of Education has emphasised that this was only a settlement between the parents and the school, and has no implications for the law more widely.

Finally, in the midst of the various parties’ passionate electoral pledges about the NHS, a report was leaked this week detailing catastrophic failings at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. The findings have been described as ‘the largest known maternity scandal in the UK, by far’, stretching over 40 years. It appears that the trust was guilty of countless avoidable deaths, as well as long-term failures in respect of informed consent for mothers, a lack of transparency and communication with bereaved families, and a lack of kindness and respect to parents and families. The report was obtained by the Independent, and is discussed in detail here.

In the courts

This week saw two important human rights decisions. These concerned assisted suicide and the life sentence regime for foreign prisoners:
Newby, R (on the application of) v The Secretary of State for Justice: Philippe Newby, a longtime sufferer from motor neurone disease, wants to end his life. He applied for a declaration of incompatibility under s.4 HRA 1998 in respect of the law on assisted suicide in s.2(1) Suicide Act 1961. He argued that it was incompatible with Articles 2 and 8 ECHR; a blanket ban was disproportionate. In rejecting the application, the court reiterated the position reached in Nicklinson, Conway, and T that it is ‘institutionally inappropriate’ for the court to rule on a matter such this. In light of the ECtHR’s approval of UK law in Pretty v UK (2002) and Nicklinson v UK (2015), it is for Parliament to change the law on assisted suicide. As Irwin LJ and May J explained, “there is no consensus to be gleaned from evidence…the private views of judges on such moral and political questions are irrelevant, and spring from no identifiable legal principle.” Considering Parliament’s rejection of any change to the law, in the form of the Assisted Dying (No. 2) Bill 2015, the court was bound to refuse Mr Newby’s application.
Akbar, R (on the application of) v The Secretary of State for Justice: this case related to the sentencing and parole regime for life sentence prisoners subject to deportation orders in respect of which they are ‘appeal rights exhausted’ (ARE). For ordinary life sentence prisoners, the SSJ has the power to move them from higher to lower security condition prisons, until they eventually reach ‘open conditions’. However, this power was abolished by the SSJ in respect of ARE prisoners in 2014, in the form of the new rule 7(1A) of the Prison Rules 1999. The claimant, an ARE prisoner, challenged this change to the law on the grounds that (i) it violated Article 14 ECHR, being discriminatory in respect of Articles 5 and 8, and (ii) it was irrational. The court rejected his claim on both grounds. Rule 7(1A) had a legitimate aim, was rationally connected to that aim, and could not be achieved by a less intrusive measure. A different rule would deprioritise domestic prisoners, and lead to an increased risk of ARE prisoners absconding. As such, the rule was rational, and did not violate Article 14.

There were also appeals relating to deportation of foreign criminals and deprivation of citizenship:
Secretary of State for the Home Department v KF (Nigeria): a deportation order in respect of KF, a Nigerian citizen convicted of burglary and robbery, had been overturned by the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal on the basis of s.117C(5) of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act and Rule 399 of the Immigration Rules. KF had children based in the UK, and the lower courts considered this amounted to a ‘genuine and subsisting relationship’ in respect of which it would be unduly harsh to deport KF to Nigeria. The High Court overruled the lower courts. In so doing, the court echoed the very recent case of SSHD v PG (Jamaica), stressing that the harshness required under s.117C(5) must be beyond what would necessarily be involved for the children of a foreign criminal – i.e. mere deprivation of shared parental support would not be enough. However strict it might seem, the will of Parliament must be respected, per Hickinbottom LJ in PG.
CI (Nigeria) v The Secretary of State for the Home Department: CI is a Nigerian national, who was seriously abused by his mother, and taken into care at 15. He had committed a series of thefts and robberies, and was diagnosed with a serious ‘depressive disorder’ with ‘some post-traumatic traits’. The Upper Tribunal had upheld the Secretary of State’s deportation order. The High Court overruled this decision. In so doing, the court considered the criteria for ‘Exception 1’ under s.117C(4) of the NIAA 2002. Although CI probably had not on balance been lawfully resident for ‘most of his life’, the court noted that he had been ‘socially and culturally integrated’, on the basis that his social and cultural identity was formed almost entirely in the UK, and he had maintained some academic success and romantic and family relationships; and that there were ‘very significant obstacles to reintegration’ in Nigeria, as he would be too psychiatrically unwell to access mental health care in Nigeria. Accordingly, the UT could reasonably have decided that there were very compelling circumstances such as to outweigh the public interest in deporting CI, under s.117C(6). The case was therefore remitted to the UT for a re-hearing.
The Secretary of State for the Home Department v E3 & Anor: The Secretary of State (SS) appealed a decision by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) to overrule her orders depriving two individuals of citizenship under s.40(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981. Both individuals were Bangladeshi citizens who had turned to Islamic extremism. The court was asked to consider whether the SS had been precluded from making the orders, on the basis that she was making the two stateless (under s.40(4)). The crucial piece of evidence for the SS was a ‘note verbale’ received from the Bangladeshi Ministry of Defence regarding the practice of Bangladeshi law, which appeared to indicate the two might not become stateless. In overruling SIAC’s decision, the court noted that SIAC had had a confused and inconsistent approach to the burden of proof, confusing the legal and evidential burdens. It was for the Secretary of State to prove that she was ‘satisfied’ that the individuals would not become stateless, and the burden then shifted to those individuals to prove otherwise. Further, SIAC had ‘mischaracterised’ the note verbale as ‘extra-official’, and it should have been given greater weight. The case was remitted to a differently constituted SIAC to be re-decided.

In the ECtHR
Razvozzhayev v Russia and Ukraine and Ukraine and Udaltsov v Russia : this case related to protests in Moscow in 2012, led by the supporters of opposition leaders Boris Nemtsov and Alexei Navalny, and actions taken against the applicants in the aftermath, including house arrest, abduction from asylum in Ukraine, and transfer to a penal colony in Krasnoyarsk. The court found an array of violations of Articles 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, and Article 1 Protocol 1 in respect of these actions by Russia and Ukraine.
Nejdet Atalay v Turkey: a Turkish citizen was involved in a demonstration at a funeral for four members of the PKK (Workers’ Party of Kurdistan), a terrorist organisation. As a result, he was sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment under the Turkish criminal code. The court held that this was a violation of his rights to freedom of expression under Article 10 ECHR, and was neither proportionate nor necessary in a democratic society.
Yurtdas and Soylemez v Turkey: two Turkish citizens were given a suspended sentence of two years imprisonment for chanting pro-Kurdish slogans. The court held that this was a violation of their rights to freedom of expression under Article 10 ECHR, and was neither proportionate nor necessary in a democratic society.
Obote v Russia: a small group of people held a flash mob in front of a government office in Moscow, sticking blank sheets of paper to their mouth with sticky tape. When asked to disperse, the applicant asked the police why; he was then escorted to the police station, and subsequently convicted of an administrative offence under the Russian Public Events Act. The court held that this was disproportionate, given the quasi-criminal nature of the sanction, when the group had done nothing capable of causing disorder or disruption to ordinary life. There had therefore been a violation of the right to peaceful assembly under Article 11.
TK and SR v Russia: this case considered in detail the human rights implications of extraditing ethnic Uzbeks to Kyrgyzstan for violent crimes. After a review of the reports and research available on the human rights situation in Kyrgyzstan, the court concluded that Uzbeks no longer constitute a vulnerable group such as to face risks of persecution solely based on ethnic origin in Kyrgyzstan. There was therefore no violation of the right against inhumane or degrading treatment under Article 3 in extraditing the applicants.
Znakovas v Lithuania: a police officer used an electroshock weapon against a domestic violence suspect who was unarmed and handcuffed; there was no subsequent investigation into his conduct. The court held that this constituted a violation of the right against inhumane or degrading treatment under Article 3 in both its substantive and procedural limbs.
KO and VM v Norway: the applicants were parents with a history of post-traumatic stress disorder and attention deficit disorder and psychiatric ill-health and drug abuse respectively. A number of anonymous notifications of concern were sent to child welfare services, resulting in an intervention which led to restrictions on contact between parents and daughter to a maximum of four visits a year. The court found that this was a violation of the right to family life under Article 8, because such infrequent contact amounted to child welfare services implicitly giving up the aim of reunification at a very early stage, without full justification of why this was considered appropriate.

Bailey double sinks Bayern as Leipzig go top in Germany

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey (No. 9) gets past Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry.

Leon Bailey scored twice as Bayern Munich crashed 2-1 at home to 10-man Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, while RB Leipzig top the Bundesliga after a nervous 3-2 win at bottom side Paderborn. Hansi Flick lost for the first time in five games as Bayern's interim coach after Jamaica winger Bailey scored first-half goals for Leverkusen. Mid-table Leverkusen finished with 10 men after defender Jonathan Tah saw a late red card for fouling Philippe Coutinho. Leipzig's win over Paderborn allowed them to open a two-point lead over Borussia Moenchenglabach. Elsewhere, Jurgen Klinsmann started his tenure as Hertha Berlin's interim boss with a 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Borussia Dortmund at the sold-out Olympic Stadium. Flick, put in charge until at least January, had won his first four games with 16 goals scored and zero conceded -- the best start by a coach in Bayern's proud history. However, little went right at the Allianz Arena for Bayern, who are fourth and trail Leipzig by three points. "I didn't flip out after winning four games and I won't now," said Flick. "We knew Leverkusen were good on the counter and they took their chances mercilessly; we didn't take ours." Bayern hit the...

Wereldmuziek (CD)

Olive and Philip Chong had their Saturday all planned out: a relaxed breakfast followed by Christmas shopping. That changed drastically around 9 a.m., when their daughter stopped on the stairs leading to the basement of their home, a basket of laundry in her hands. Swirling around the washer and dryer, she saw two inches of […]

Sewer blockage pushes waste into 300 New York City homes

NEW YORK — A blocked sewer main flooded basements Saturday with brown filth and left residents in the neighborhood near New York City’s Kennedy Airport feeling sickened by the stench. A water condition caused the backup, pushing human waste into about 300 homes in Jamaica, Queens, officials said. Cynthia McKenzie said she woke up around 3 a.m. to an odor she thought was a gas leak, only to realize that sewage water was rushing into her basement. As the water […]

We've received no reports of the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW visiting Brookside Park in Sayville since last Monday. This park is at 59 Brook Street across from Sayville High School and the feeders are behind the park building where the GOLDEN-CROWNED and accompanying White-throated Sparrows were seen most consistently. It still might be fruitful checking there for this bird.

Last Saturday morning a winter plumaged BLACK GUILLEMOT flew into Shinnecock Inlet and then floated back out again. Unfortunately the only time it was seen.

The immature BROWN PELICAN was still present Wednesday around the inlet to Montauk Harbor often sitting along the west side of the inlet or on sand beaches just inside the inlet.

Also in the Montauk area a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen this morning at the Theodore Roosevelt County Park on the north side of Route 27 just west of the Deep Hollow Dude Ranch.

The WESTERN KINGBIRD at Jones Beach West End was last reported last Saturday near the Coast Guard Station.

Three TUNDRA SWANS, 2 adults and a young bird, were first spotted last Saturday on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and were still present today around the mid point of the pond. An immature GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found in a Canada Goose flock Tuesday in Dix Hills the flock frequenting a field at Half Hollow Hills High School West near the intersection of Wolf's Hill Road and Melrose Road. Vagrant geese, except for a few Cackling types have been scarce so far this fall. Though an escaped EMPEROR GOOSE in White Plains recently has raised hopes that more vagrants are on the way perhaps to be pushed down by the upcoming storm.

Last Saturday single ICELAND GULLS were at Playland Park in Rye and along the northeastern shore of Staten Island with 2 at Shinnecock Inlet Sunday when 7 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were also present along the Shinnecock beaches. Two LESSER BLACK-BACKEDS were also at Smith Point County Park Monday with another on with Central Park Reservoir Wednesday. A possible THAYER'S ICELAND GULL at Argyle Lake in Babylon last Saturday unfortunately got away before all salient field marks could be documented.

During the week COMMON GALLINULES were present at Mill Pond Park in Bellmore through today and on Lotus Lake in Sayville at least to Monday and a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen off Mount Loretto Unique Area on Staten Island Sunday.

An immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER found Saturday in Central Park's north end was still present yesterday and an adult was spotted at Pelham Bay Park's Hunter Island on Tuesday.

A group of 9 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were identified Wednesday as they flew around the Riverhead sod fields off Route 105 just below Sound Avenue.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was present yesterday and today at Mill Pond in Bellmore and another continues at Marshlands Conservancy in Rye.

A VESPER SPARROW was still at the recently opened Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn last Saturday and other interesting late species have featured WHITE-EYED VIREO, LINCOLN'S SPARROW and various warblers including OVENBIRD, NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN and a WILSON'S lingering in Prospect Park.

    Bajans in Jamaica celebrate 53

It’s not just about infrastructural development! This was the strong caution issued by Methodist Chaplin Reverend Dr Karen Durant-McSweeney in delivering the sermon at a service of thanksgiving on Sunday in celebration of Barbados’ 53rd anniversary of political independence from Britain. The preacher quoted directly from Prime Minister Mia Mottley’s Independence Day address as she urged […]

Far from him being the leader, he the exposed nerve, the one who takes the blame for what they decide to do as a group, which in turn is what their masters and chain holders decide they allowed to do. It isn real power, it just a singular embodiment of their collective power, and his actions are an embodiment of their collective will. gay sex toys

Adult Toys At the time,Saleh's outster was seen as a victory for democracy. But over the next couple of years, Hadi struggled to lead effectively. The country was plagued with unemployment, food insecurity and corruption. The controller for the vibe portion of The Pussy is very simple and easy to use. One end of the switch is on/off, and the other is the vibe modes. There are seven modes including escalating, pulsating, and speed. Adult Toys

g spot vibrator Christy's smile deepened at the thought that she looked somewhat older, a little sophisticated, maybe even a little daring. Her high heeled sandals and her leather double handled purse added the finishing touch. She was looking forward to her date tonight with Kevin, a guy she had met last weekend at a party given by a co worker. g spot vibrator

And then there's the deep blues of The Temptations' "I Wish It Would Rain" and Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." I have to believe these songs provided a little comfort, or a way to express mourning. "Dock of the Bay," which was released in January of '68 vibrators, had been No. 1 throughout March and held on in the Top 20 for another month..

Another in a kind of Burroughs/Cormac McCarthy cut up pastiche with no capitalization or punctuation. Because, when you have a thousand pages to play with, you're going to try some tricks, right? You're going to stretch your wings and see if you can fly. And sometimes, Moore does..

g spot vibrator I think they don cover the shipping on those because it so expensive due to the weight of most of them. But, upon further investigation, the Jaz I just got from work is only a pound and I gotten boxes that were bigger than this is from Eden, so I not even sure about that. They used to be partnered up with Liberator but they just split from them, so maybe that plays a part in it.. g spot vibrator

Which means I am not philosophically in favour of cosmetic surgery, tatoos or piercing. However, my ideas are irrelevent, it's not my body. My reservations about more elective and vanity surgery however are that for many people, once usually isn't enough, and it ends up being a lifetime of cuts, removals and addtions and they STILL loathe their bodies.

Realistic Dildo I would definitely recommend trying the lube on a less sensitive area first before using. I had burning sensations with KY, but only on the occasions I pushed my limits too fast and didn adequately work myself up to using a larger toy. So like any time you do anything anal, don rush things and take your time to adequately warm yourself and/or your partner up.. Realistic Dildo

Adult Toys After those preliminaries, he went right to the first question. Now, I have to admit that I went to this event with mixed feelings. While I think that, over all, Dan Savage gives awesome advice and that it's great to have someone like him be in the position that he is in, I do sometimes cringe at some of the advice that he gives. wholesale dildos It not a disaster for Sony. With a $40 million price tag, it the latest in a string of risk mitigating low to mid range budget comedies that Hollywood is favoring these days. And it may yet get into the black, if it can manage decent foreign returns and some staying power at the domestic box office. wholesale dildos

dildos Were no injuries and the area is secure, Daniel wrote in an email. Of the appropriate regulatory notifications have been made. An initial site assessment reveals evidence of a landslide in the vicinity of the pipeline. Such is the case for Paolo William, a 51 year old straight male who has used vibrators and other toys with his partners for at least 25 years. Though he's tried the Fleshlight, in addition to several prostate stimulators, most of his toy usage is within the context of partner play. "I am a pleaser, so I like toys that she likes," says William. dildos

I'm not hating on your preference man, I'm just calling out how dramatic you're being? I only took a glance at the sub, but from what I seen. gay sex toys I don want to sound like a dick, but can you link a source?I assuming that you mean the "internal market". All that aims to do is ensure free trade within the EU without import/export taxes when trading with member countries. It does not force trade with anyone, you are free to pick and choose who you trade with, however it means that it is easier to do, should you choose to.. gay sex toys

horse dildo Then I had to play the waiting game for everyone to be out of the house so I could test out these new vibrations without fear of getting heard. And when the time came wow. Just, wow. The biggest problems with kids tablets is that they are easily broken and they sluggish. But Amazon sought out to fix that with their awesome Fire HD 7 kids tablet, which runs very well and has a whopping 2 year worry free guarantee which means Amazon will replace it for free when your kid drops it and breaks it. And, trust me, he will break it at some point. horse dildo

sex toys Whatever. I content enough with my sexuality. I had fun smacking butts playfully or touching their leg/arm. It looks wonderful, and cleverly and romantically decorated. I know what you're doing now. You're living out your most beloved fantasy on me.. sex toys

vibrators I'd say wear coloured underwear whenever you want. For me, at least, underwear (esp bras) are about how they make YOU feel, not about who sees them. I started buying 'sexy' bras about a year ago because I thought "why not?" you buy outer clothes that make you feel good. vibrators

dog dildo When President of the United States says something racist it is a big problem because he has the power to enact a regressive agenda and/or commit atrocities on a countrywide if not global scale. This is especially true given his apparent stranglehold on the US Senate. It doesn even have to be at that level, as racist white voters have far more political power than racist minority voters due to their numbers and economic factors.. dog dildo

g spot vibrator I learned a lot about the backend of retail when I was the Web Administrator / Marketing Coordinator for a manufacturer for 2 years in between working for public broadcast and later at the Wharton School. I polished my skills at Penn while working in development in External Affairs. Yes, it's a far cry from the adult industry but a lot of the practices I've developed have transferred to how I work in this job.. g spot vibrator

wholesale dildos Regime change for those not schooled in history is almost imperative in war. The region faster rearms and then you are back there regardless. It is a process that takes some time to liberate a population into new governance. The Supreme Court must be more aware of and empathetic to the complicated lives of different populations and the ways in which the system disenfranchises these voters. Alito's statement that if voting mattered to people, they would vote ignores the tendency for local governments to make voting more difficult. The 2013 decision to strike down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, coupled with this recent decision, demonstrates a willful ignorance of the history of racial, gender, disability and education based discrimination in this country.. wholesale dildos

Adult Toys The only scene that I didn't find very sexy was the scene with the angels. I found it a little creepy, not sexy, but that just may be me. I'm sure those who love to see people in elaborate angel wings may enjoy it. Is there any other diferences between them, besides the material and size. I have read all the reviews, but still unsure. There is no comparison reviews between 2 different ones.. Adult Toys

sex toys Intentionally or not vibrators, silence, or beating around the bush about an anti Semitic incident, sends the message to the school community that anti Semitism is acceptable and tolerable. It isn't, and as OCR has recognized, school leaders should clearly and publicly condemn an incident as anti Semitic when it occurs. sex toys Oh well. Now you know what/who to look for on the next go around. And don beat yourself up, you did the right thing and trusted her. Some adolescent specific studies on the pill have shown that it is less effective for adolescents in typical use than it is for adults. One study found that teens' ability to use the pill properly was as low as only 45% with the first three months of use, and only 33% with one year of use. So, if you're going to use the pill, as with other methods, be sure you study up on what proper use means and make it a goal to stick to it as best you can. sex toys

wholesale vibrators When massaging into the skin, the product will initially feel coarse and gritty, a bit like rubbing sand against your skin. However, this only lasts for a few seconds. Within a moment, the granules melt into the cream. She even said how she's too scared to talk to me about it face to face and she called herself a coward. Well, messaging me to ask me something I can understand, but one cowardly thing she did was sabotage me to dump her and say rude things when she could've dumped me straight out. Realistic Dildo We would recommend starting with something versatile like a body wand. The body wands are great for massage and relaxation, which is important for orgasms, and they pack amazing strength making orgasms easy for those, who have trouble climaxing. wholesale sex toys As for the snark well vibrators vibrators, if you think documenting a case of hypocrisy is a mere snark, tant pis. And the fact that the snark is so delightfully juicy once you explore a little. Well, that's just icing on the cake. wholesale sex toys Well, no. That doesn work. One of the effects of prohibition is now understood to be that it adds something of an extra thrill to using the substance you been told you shouldn A study in the UK discovered that for a certain strata of the populace, don do it style advertising campaigns increased the likelihood of people using anything.. wholesale sex toys

dildo I'd also do all you can to empower her with the understanding that it is no less normal or appropriate for her to be and feel sexual than it is anyone else: that message alone, even if you gave her nothing else, is so powerful. The actual mechanics of sex as in, this goes here with that, wiggle your hips like this, use your tongue like that are actually something I think fewer people need, period, particularly when we're talking about learning those abstractly, rather than with partners which is how any of us usually learns the how to. If she can get an understanding of anatomy and accurate sexual anatomy, of limits and boundaries, and have some sense of what desire, pleasure and intimacy are, the rest follows pretty easily if and when she gets to having sexual partners. It's tough to try and tell someone about mechanics in any depth because it's all so individual to each of us per what we and partners like and dislike, do and don't want to do: the trick is to learn how to listen and communicate around sex so that when we are at sexual partnership, we learn and teach each other well in those partnerships per what we like and don't. dildo

wholesale vibrators I understand what you say when you say about this man seeming never to have harmed any other young person. I do think it's worth remembering, though, that people who Do harm children tend to be very careful about it. They don't harm every child they come into contact with, they choose very deliberately children who they think might be more vulnerable, perhaps children without such good home support, ones who are less likely to have a safe and reliable adult to tell. wholesale vibrators

wholesale dildos Remote control up to 30 feet. Special feature Remote Control Vibrates when the bullet is on. Waterproof vibrating egg. The slim butt plug is smooth. I sometimes share meals with them when those meals contain something vegetarian but most of the time I make my own meals really often. Realistic Dildo Yes, it is still quite possible to get pregnant while on your period it may be a little less likely, but who wants to take that chance? It also doesn't matter if he ejaculated or not, because pre cum can contain sperm, putting her at high risk for pregnancy. Your friend can get a prescription for emergency contraception at a doctor's office or a health clinic (like Planned Parenthood), if it has been within 72 hours (3 days) of that incident. The sooner the better, too emergency contraception is much more effective if taken soon after intercourse. Realistic Dildo

vibrators There is one on each side of the toy. It should be in the color you choose that is different then white. That "O" is what makes the toy so amazing. The American "justice" system is already unjust enough for the vast majority of citizens, but I still can't believe the courts support, directly and indirectly, such programs. Then again, having the "camps" off shore in places like Jamaica frees the organizations from pretty much any prosecution under US law, while taking advantage of cheap, underpaid labor on local economies. The courts don't support this stuff because they can't. vibrators

wholesale vibrators This is all very abstract though. Different sorts of group disparity are plausibly underwritten by different accumulation mechanisms. Inherited wealth probably plays a much different role for explaining racial disparities than gender disparities, for instance. wholesale vibrators

Adult Toys I wanted to make sure these stories existed for my nieces and nephews, pretty much everyone who was coming up behind me. So I made them exist. I did not expect to make it nearly as far as I have. This bullet is made of TPR Silicone, which is hypo allergenic vibrators, latex free, and phthalates free. The material is smooth, there is a seam that runs from tip to tip, all the way around. It's hardly noticeable to the touch, and doesn't affect user during play. Adult Toys

When a pregnancy is unplanned or unwanted (and these are two different things), the decision to become a parent may become harder because, as nice as babies may be in the abstract, the reality of parenthood [again, especially motherhood] may mean putting aside plans someone already has for themselvesthat they knowwill improve their life and perhaps make them a better parentin the future, if that is what she wants. In this way, teens have much more at stake in making this decision than older people. They are only now setting their adult path..

Then he would finish on her face. There was also minimal dirty talk, which was a major turn off for me. The plot was really loose and it was more of a filler for the sex. I'm a very private and quiet person, and it irked me quite a bit to have to talk even more softly than usual to avoid having her put in her two cents for my conversations. We haven't shared a room since I was 5, so you can imagine how uncomfortable it is. But, really.

      Event Update For 2019-11-30

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

      A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
      B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
      C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
      D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
      E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
      F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

EFE

He Didn’t Want ‘To Go Out Like A Punk’

Forget tactics, gear, or even training...the self-image you bring to the fight is by far the most important thing and by far what is sorely lacking in the new world. This guy gets it. Miami Man In Van Guns Down AK-47 Wielding Robber Because He Didn’t Want ‘To Go Out Like A Punk’ (“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” said Donovan Stewart. Stewart told CBS4’S Peter D’Oench that he had to act quickly because he was worried about the safety of his 11-year-old son and girlfriend who were in the van with him. “I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica,” he said, “and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest. This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping and he was surprised to see what I did.” He demonstrated what he did for CBS4.
