The Wave, en Arizona

El desierto tiene un encanto único. Esta formación rocosa de arenisca tiene unas caprichosas formas que lo hacen parecer una ola. Solamente hay 20 permisos al día para visitarla, porque es la única manera de preservarla tal y como está. Más información: The Wave.

Objective & Background:

Traditionally, changing language settings means using a completely different keyboard layout. With the polyKB One, you will no longer need to switch between different layouts, because the same layout will accommodate all of the above mentioned languages.

Features:

Localization:

We've localized! Now your polyKB One will become your natural layout. It will adopt the local of your device's language settings.

This innovative keyboard includes the "alt gr" key, which is used in most traditional European keyboards. (The "alt gr" key activates symbols that are in the bottom right-hand corner of the key).

The upside-down shift key:

The polyKB One features a new key called the upside-down shift key, which allows you to turn symbols upside-down. Thanks to this key, we’ve been able to consolidate many special characters into the single polyKB One layout, by introducing a new yet intuitive way of building them. (And it’s fun!)

Why upside-down?

The upside-down shift key allows us to include a plethora of special characters without overcrowding the keyboard. As you can see, the keyboard layout is very similar to what you’re already used to.

Jay Ryan Landland June of 44 San Francisco Poster

 Cache

Jay Ryan always tells the best stories:
LISTEN TO MY STORY, CHILDREN. When I was a much younger man, I left home and traveled the western world aboard a ragged vessel which took me and my mates from one end of this country to the other several times over, as well as far-flung places like Chile, Iceland, Croatia, and Baltimore. Several of those voyages were in the company of a fine batch of actual human pirates who called themselves June of 44, and we had glorious times, with many tales to tell, and many songs sung in the dead of night. While I don't take to those voyages much these days (due to my bum leg and all), I am delighted to see that those swarthy asses known as June of 44 have taken again to the high seas and played three shows along the west coast this last weekend. Reports have come in that there was much scorching and blazing by both sharks AND sailors.
More from Jay:
I was fortunate to get to collaborate with my friends Jes and Dan from LANDLAND on this poster. In October, Dan came back to Chicago from Minneapolis and we shoved an ink drawing back and forth across the kitchen table for a couple days. Jes worked remotely, performing her magic watercolor-paint-based tricks to add some grit and rust to thie piece, before Dan masterfully printed all six screens at his home base in Minneapolis.

General documents - Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum - Delegation for Northern cooperation and for relations with Switzerland and Norway and to the EU-Iceland Joint Parliamentary Committee and the European Economic Area (EEA) Joint Parliamentary Committee

 Cache

European Parliament initiated the Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum as the parliamentary component of the Northern Dimension policy shared by the EU, Russia, Iceland and Norway. The creation of the Forum was based on a European Parliament resolution on the Future of the Northern Dimension, which underlined the Parliament's support for the establishment of the Northern Dimension Forum and its readiness to play a full part in it and to host its first meeting.

An initial conference took place in 2007, followed in 2009 by the first full Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum. Both events were hosted by the European Parliament in Brussels, as well as the Fifth Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum on 22 November 2017.

The Sixth Forum took place on 18-20 November 2020 in Bodø, Norway.

Honor Launches View30 5G Smartphones: 6.57-Inch, Kirin 990, 40MP

 Cache

Honor has introduced its View30-series smartphones that bring the latest mobile technologies its parent company Huawei has to offer, including the top-of-the-range SoC, a triple-module camera, as well as 5G connectivity, in a rather democratically priced package. Honor’s V30 family consists of two base modes — the V30 and the V30 Pro — that are set to be available in various RAM/storage configurations.

Traditionally aimed at younger consumers, Honor’s phones feature a body with eye catching paint job that promises to be appreciated by the target audience. In case of the View30 and View30 Pro, we are dealing with the so-called Aurora nano texture paint as well as Ocean Blue, Galaxy Black, Icelandic Frost, Sunrise Orange colors. Both handsets come with a 6.57-inch FullView IPS display featuring a 2400x1080 resolution and a punch hole for two of its selfie cameras, which we will discuss later.

Honor’s View30 family contains two base models that have generally the same functionality, yet are slightly different in terms of internal hardware. The V30 is based on HiSilicon’s Kirin 990 SoC accompanied by the Balong 5000 5G modem. By contrast, the V30 Pro version features HiSilicon’s Kirin 990 5G application processor with an integrated 5G modem.

Without any doubts, 5G support is the key selling feature of the new smartphones, yet it is implemented a different way in case of the View30 and the View 30 Pro models - the choice of producing essentially the same device, both with 5G capability and also with very similar SoCs is a quite odd product development choice.

The regular V30 sports 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, while the V30 Pro is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage.

Moving on to imaging capabilities of the smartphones, the Honor View30-series handsets are equipped with a triple-module rear cameras, comprising of a 40 MP Sony IMX600 main module with OIS, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 3x optical zoom 8MP zoom module. Both models also have a 32 MP selfie camera which is complemented by an 8 MP wide-angle module. As we would expect from late 2019 cameras, they come with ‘AI-enhanced’ software designed to improve quality and simplify usage.

Speaking of software, it is necessary to mention that Honor's View30 Series handsets use Google's Android 10 with the company's Magic UI 3.0.1, but without Google Play and other Google services.

Rounding out the package, the new handsets naturally feature 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, navigation, a USB 2.0 Type-C port, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a 4,100 mAh battery that can be charged using a wired or wireless charger supporting SuperCharge, wireless reverse charging support.

Since Honor brand does not produce ultra-high-end devices that would compete against flagship smartphones from Huawei, they a few of the more premium features. The View 30 handsets thus are not dust and water resistant, they do not feature a Nano Memory slot, and, as mentioned above, are not equipped with DCI-P3-capable OLED displays, instead relying on a more traditional IPS LCD screen.

Larger head circumference in Icelandic children 0-4 years of age compared to the World Health Organization and Swedish growth charts.

Acta Paediatr. 2019 Nov 22;:

Authors: Juliusson PB, Dagbjartsson A, Roelants M, Palsson G, Fridjonsdottir H, Einarsdottir R, Thorsson AV

Abstract
AIM: The World Health Organization (WHO) published universal growth standards for children below five year of age in 2006. Traditionally, Swedish growth references have been used to monitor growth of children in Iceland, but it is not yet known how they compare to these reference charts.
METHODS: A total of 2128 longitudinal measurements of length or height, 2132 of weight and 2126 of head circumference between birth and four years of age were collected in 1996-2000 from 199 healthy children (53% boys) recruited at Landspitali University Hospital. Measurements were converted to z-scores using the WHO growth standards and Swedish growth references for further analysis with mixed effects models.
RESULTS: Length or height, weight and in particular head circumference largely exceeded the WHO standards, with average z-scores that fluctuated between 0.5 and 1.5. Likewise the proportion of children with a z-score larger than 2 SD increased about 10-fold. Icelandic children were longer and heavier than their Swedish peers during the first six months of life, but differences were less pronounced thereafter.
CONCLUSION: The growth of Icelandic children deviated significantly from the WHO growth standards. Although more comparable to the Swedish references, significant differences were found, suggesting that a national growth reference would be more appropriate.

Jingle Bells! Jolabokaflod! Reading All the Way!

 Cache

What is Jólabókaflóð, you say? Jólabókaflóð (pronounced yo-la-bok-a-flot) means “Yule Book Flood”, a popular Christmas tradition from Iceland in which books are exchanged as gifts on Christmas Eve. The tradition originated during World War II when Iceland was under financial struggle and foreign imports were restricted. So there were very limited options when it came …

5 Ways to Get to Sleep Quicker For a Restful Night’s Sleep

 Cache

Top tips for optimising your bedtime routine to wake up refreshed

We think it’s safe to assume we all want to get the best night’s sleep possible and wake up feeling refreshed. But sleep is a funny old thing, as something we do every night, you’d think we’d be well practised; but it seems some of us could do with some pointers on getting consistent, high-quality sleep – the kind where you wake up before the alarm!

The secret to waking up refreshed lies approximately 8 hours before the alarm goes off; it begins with our bedtime routine. Taking the time to wind down properly and leave the day behind has the power to set you up for the best night’s sleep possible.

So before you settle into your heavenly French Bed, we’ve collected a few tips on how to master a truly calming bedtime routine…

Turn Down The Statement Lighting

We all know light and sleep don’t go hand-in-hand, so being mindful of the lighting in your home as the evening moves towards bedtime is imperative.

As the sun sets and it starts to get dark, our internal body clock triggers the release of the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin – we’re sensitive souls! We don’t want to stand in nature’s way so, during the evening switch from the impressive overhead pendant lights and sparkling French chandeliers to softly lit table lamps, dimmed wall lights and luxury scented candles to create a sleep-inducing cocoon of ambient light.

A Calm Bedroom Retreat

Having a calming, designated space to end your day is imperative. A beautiful dressing table, with soothing scented candles and everything to hand is the perfect place to remove your makeup, brush away all the busyness and signal to your body that it’s nearly time to sleep.

Ideal Temperature for A Good Night’s Sleep

Our body temperature plays a huge part in how well we sleep – too hot and you can have a restless night’s sleep; too cold – can lead to stiffness and a feeling of being unwell. Consider everything you have contact with when you sleep: pillows, duvet, luxury mattress, bed linen and even pyjamas. Natural fibres such as cotton, linen, silk, wool, bamboo and flax are ideal for maintaining an optimal body temperature when sleeping. These natural fibres are breathable (allowing air to circulate), durable, moisture wicking and available with sustainability in mind – meaning you can sleep soundly without the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Write This Down

Emptying your mind at the end of day allows you to switch off. If you’ve got a lot on – stress, worry, creative thoughts are likely to interrupt your sleep. During the evening, before you head to bed, write out a ‘to do’ list, leaving your worries and ideas on the page and not taking them to bed.

A Soft Landing

Once you’ve achieved the perfect routine and a good night’s sleep, it’s time to get up. Temperature matters more than ever in the morning, to keep the cosy bed feeling for longer, let your feet land on a thick, plush rug. It may seem a small detail, but it will make a big difference to your morning.

BEGIN TAPE

Greetings. This is the New York Rare Bird Alert for Friday, November 29th 2019 at 9pm. The highlights of today's tape are GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, BLACK GUILLEMOT, BROWN PELICAN, WESTERN KINGBIRD, NORTHERN SHRIKE, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, TUNDRA SWAN, ICELAND GULL, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and more.

We've received no reports of the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW visiting Brookside Park in Sayville since last Monday. This park is at 59 Brook Street across from Sayville High School and the feeders are behind the park building where the GOLDEN-CROWNED and accompanying White-throated Sparrows were seen most consistently. It still might be fruitful checking there for this bird.

Last Saturday morning a winter plumaged BLACK GUILLEMOT flew into Shinnecock Inlet and then floated back out again. Unfortunately the only time it was seen.

The immature BROWN PELICAN was still present Wednesday around the inlet to Montauk Harbor often sitting along the west side of the inlet or on sand beaches just inside the inlet.

Also in the Montauk area a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen this morning at the Theodore Roosevelt County Park on the north side of Route 27 just west of the Deep Hollow Dude Ranch.

The WESTERN KINGBIRD at Jones Beach West End was last reported last Saturday near the Coast Guard Station.

Three TUNDRA SWANS, 2 adults and a young bird, were first spotted last Saturday on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and were still present today around the mid point of the pond. An immature GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found in a Canada Goose flock Tuesday in Dix Hills the flock frequenting a field at Half Hollow Hills High School West near the intersection of Wolf's Hill Road and Melrose Road. Vagrant geese, except for a few Cackling types have been scarce so far this fall. Though an escaped EMPEROR GOOSE in White Plains recently has raised hopes that more vagrants are on the way perhaps to be pushed down by the upcoming storm.

Last Saturday single ICELAND GULLS were at Playland Park in Rye and along the northeastern shore of Staten Island with 2 at Shinnecock Inlet Sunday when 7 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were also present along the Shinnecock beaches. Two LESSER BLACK-BACKEDS were also at Smith Point County Park Monday with another on with Central Park Reservoir Wednesday. A possible THAYER'S ICELAND GULL at Argyle Lake in Babylon last Saturday unfortunately got away before all salient field marks could be documented.

During the week COMMON GALLINULES were present at Mill Pond Park in Bellmore through today and on Lotus Lake in Sayville at least to Monday and a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen off Mount Loretto Unique Area on Staten Island Sunday.

An immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER found Saturday in Central Park's north end was still present yesterday and an adult was spotted at Pelham Bay Park's Hunter Island on Tuesday.

A group of 9 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were identified Wednesday as they flew around the Riverhead sod fields off Route 105 just below Sound Avenue.

The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was present yesterday and today at Mill Pond in Bellmore and another continues at Marshlands Conservancy in Rye.

A VESPER SPARROW was still at the recently opened Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn last Saturday and other interesting late species have featured WHITE-EYED VIREO, LINCOLN'S SPARROW and various warblers including OVENBIRD, NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN and a WILSON'S lingering in Prospect Park.

Did Human Hunters Alone Wipe Out the Great Auk?

 Cache
SWANSEA, WALES—Human hunters alone could be responsible for the rapid extinction of the great auk, according to an eLife announcement. Jessica Thomas of Swansea University said millions of the large, flightless birds, prized for their meat, eggs, and feathers, once lived along the east coast of North America, off the coasts of Iceland and Scotland, and throughout Scandinavia. Thomas and her colleagues analyzed mitochondrial genetic data obtained from the remains of 41 great auks, ocean current data, and the probability of auk populations going extinct within a certain amount of time in order to reconstruct bird populations over the past 11,700 years. The study results indicate that the industrial-scale pressure humans put on bird populations beginning in the early sixteenth century were probably enough to wipe them out, even if environmental changes did not put them at risk. For more on the demand for great auks, go to "World Roundup: Scotland."

A ProMED-mail post < http://www.promedmail.org> ProMED-mail is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases < http://www.isid.org>

Date: Wed 27 Nov 2019
Source: KOMO News [edited] < https://komonews.com/news/local/local-e-coli-outbreak-potentially-tied-to-4-seattle-restaurants>

Health officials are investigating a local _Escherichia coli_ outbreak potentially tied to 4 Seattle-area restaurants that is separate from a national outbreak linked to romaine lettuce from Salinas, California. At least 7 people have been infected in the local outbreak, and 6 of them reported eating raw vegetables or leafy greens at 4 different Evergreens restaurants in King County.

All 7 of the victims were affected by the same strain of _E. coli_, which is different from the strain in the national outbreak. One ill person was hospitalized locally, and all have since recovered. The 4 Evergreen restaurants where the victims ate all have excellent food safety ratings, and health officials say it's possible that the local outbreak could be the result of a contaminated product delivered to and served at Evergreens.

"We are still investigating and do not yet have conclusive results about what caused the outbreak," said Public Health Seattle-King County in a prepared statement.

Illness onsets occurred between 10-15 Nov 2019. Meal dates were between 5-11 Nov 2019. _E. coli_ symptoms include bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. An investigation determined that all 4 Evergreens restaurants practise proper sanitizing practices to help prevent the spread of _E. coli_. Evergreens restaurants also discarded all romaine lettuce products from their stores, including romaine on the line and in coolers.

The public health department is working with the state Department of Agriculture and US Department of Agriculture on tracing back the distributors and sources for ingredients the ill people consumed in their meals.

[Although not specifically stated, this small cluster of cases is likely due to an enterohemorrhagic _E. coli_. The posting states that the strain was different from the current outbreak of serotype O157 from romaine lettuce but it is unclear if it is a different strain of O157 or a different serotype altogether (such as O111 or O26). - Mod.LL

Illnesses started on dates ranging from 24 Sep 2019 to 14 Nov 2019. Ill people range in age from 3 to 89 years, with a median age of 25. 67 per cent of ill people are female. Of 50 ill people with information available, 39 hospitalizations have been reported, including 6 people who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.

Investigation of the outbreak
-----------------------------
Epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback evidence indicate that romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region is the likely source of this outbreak. FDA and states continue to trace the source of the romaine lettuce eaten by ill people. Preliminary information indicates that some of the ill people ate lettuce grown in Salinas, California. No common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand of romaine lettuce has been identified.

CDC continues to advise that consumers not eat, and retailers not sell, any romaine lettuce grown in Salinas, California. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source of contamination and whether additional products are linked to illness.

This outbreak is caused by the same strain of _E. coli_ O157:H7 that caused outbreaks linked to leafy greens in 2017 and to romaine lettuce in 2018.

[On 14 Nov 2019, ProMED-mail first posted on 3 cases of O157 infection occurring in the Eau Claire, WI area. Since the last CDC post on 24 Nov 2019, 2 days ago, 27 more cases have been recognized. It is not that the 27 cases occurred in the 2 days but, rather, that they occurred previously and have now, through testing, been shown to be associated with the outbreak. We await additional updates on the total in Wisconsin and nationwide. - Mod.LL

Over the past 5 days, our health care facility in northwest Wisconsin, USA, has seen 3 women hospitalized with _E coli_ O157 infection. All presented with significant abdominal pain without fever and watery diarrhea which in 2 progressed to bloody diarrhea. None of the 3 have manifested any evidence of hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Both of the women seen by the Infectious Diseases service stated that their diet contains a lot of salads.

We would appreciate any reports of upswings in the number of cases of this process in the upper Midwest USA or elsewhere.

[Although the classical source of enterohemorrhagic _E. coli_ infections is ground beef, fresh produce as in salad ingredients are also well represented as vehicles of transmission. ProMED would appreciate any further reports as the country health departments work on this as yet small outbreak. - Mod.LL

A total of 40 people in 16 states have fallen ill due to an _E. coli_ outbreak in romaine lettuce, according to a report from the CDC and US FDA.

The agencies warn consumers, retailers and restaurants not to purchase or sell romaine lettuce harvested in Salinas, California, about 59 miles south of San Jose. The warning includes all types of romaine lettuce, according to a CDC tweet. So far, 28 people were hospitalized, though no deaths were reported, according to the FDA. Wisconsin has had 10 cases, the most reported from the 16 states, the CDC said.

"If romaine lettuce does not have labeling information for its growing area or the source cannot be confirmed, consumers should not eat or use the romaine," said Frank Yiannas, FDA's deputy commissioner for food policy and response. "Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell romaine lettuce if they cannot confirm it is from outside Salinas."

This outbreak was caused by the same _E. coli_ strain that caused outbreaks in 2017 and 2018, according to Yiannas and the CDC.

"Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, it is critically important to avoid buying or eating romaine lettuce from the Salinas growing area so you can protect yourself and your family," said Robert Tauxe, CDC's director of the division of foodborne, waterborne and environmental diseases.

This strain is known as the Shiga toxin-producing _E. coli_, which can cause 3-4 days of sickness after swallowing the germ, the CDC says. Most people who swallow this strain experience possible bloody diarrhea, severe stomach cramps and vomiting, the CDC says.

Recovery usually takes about a week, but the CDC says the strain can lead to longer and more severe illness.

Since the initial investigation notice, 23 additional ill people have been reported. As of 21 Nov 2019, a total of 40 people infected with the outbreak strain of _E. coli_ O157:H7 have been reported from 16 states.

Illnesses started on dates ranging from 24 Sep 2019, to 10 Nov 2019. Ill people range in age from 3 to 89 years, with a median age of 22. Six* percent of ill people are female. Of 39 ill people with information available, 28 hospitalizations have been reported, including 5 people who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.

Epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback evidence indicate that romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region is a likely source of this outbreak.

In interviews, ill people answered questions about the foods they ate and other exposures in the week before they became ill. Eight (80%) of 10 people interviewed reported eating romaine lettuce. This percentage is significantly higher than results from a survey of healthy people in which 47% reported eating romaine lettuce in the week before they were interviewed. Ill people in Maryland reported eating Ready Pac Foods Bistro Chicken Caesar Salad. To date, ill people in other states have not reported eating this particular salad, which contained romaine lettuce from the Salinas, California growing region.

As reported on 20 Nov 2019, the Maryland Department of Health external icon identified _E. coli_ O157 in romaine lettuce from an unopened package of Ready Pac Foods Bistro Chicken Caesar Salad collected from a sick person's home in Maryland. Whole genome sequencing has been completed and shows that the _E. coli_ strain in the romaine lettuce is closely related genetically to the _E. coli_ found in sick people in this outbreak. This provides additional evidence that people in this outbreak got sick from eating romaine lettuce.

FDA and states are tracing the source of the romaine lettuce eaten by ill people. Preliminary information indicates that some of the ill people ate lettuce grown in Salinas, California. No common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand of romaine lettuce has been identified.

CDC is advising that consumers not eat, and retailers not sell, any romaine lettuce harvested from Salinas, California until more information is available. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source of contamination and whether additional products are linked to illness.

This outbreak is caused by the same strain of _E. coli_ O157:H7 that caused outbreaks linked to leafy greens in 2017 and to romaine lettuce in 2018.

Mozilla: Accessibility Inspector, CSS, Telemetry and More

 Cache
  • Auditing For Accessibility Problems With Firefox Developer Tools

Since its debut in Firefox 61, the Accessibility Inspector in the Firefox Developer Tools has evolved from a low-level tool showing the accessibility structure of a page. In Firefox 70, the Inspector has become an auditing facility to help identify and fix many common mistakes and practices that reduce site accessibility. In this post, I will offer an overview of what is available in this latest release.

  • CSS zoom, a close up on issues

CSS zoom is a non-standard feature.

It was initially implemented by Microsoft Internet Explorer, then was reversed engineered by Apple Safari team for WebKit, and exist in Google Chrome on Blink. Chris talks briefly about the origin.

  • Week notes - 2019 w48 - worklog

The end of the 2019Q4 is approaching at the speed of light, specifically for me, given that I will be away starting December 21 until January 2. Previous instance of the week notes has been published.

  • This Week in Glean: Differences 29.11.19 10:37

Currently my team is responsible for the Telemetry framework inside Firefox on Desktop and also the Glean SDK, targeting our mobile products. We're working on bringing the Glean experience to Firefox on Desktop, but in the meantime Telemetry is what we have, need to support and sometimes implement new features on.

One of these features is a new ping (or, better, a change in a ping), that we now want to support across all our products. I'm speaking of the deletion-request ping here. When a user opts out of Telemetry we take this as a signal to also delete associated data from our pipeline.

Implementation in Firefox Desktop was merely renaming an existing ping that is triggered when the user disables "Data Collection and Use" (about:preferences -> Privacy & Security). It contains no additional data. Implementation in Glean was not much harder either. Glean already supports custom pings: Pings that can be defined and send by the application using Glean. Glean's internal pings follow the same pattern, they are just pre-defined. The biggest difference?

    It's called deletion_request ping instead.

On ingestion data from a ping is decoded from its JSON form and put into tables on BigQuery (in our documentation you can find an overview of the data pipeline if you are interested). BigQuery table names can only contain alphanumeric characters and underscores (see "Table naming" in the BigQuery documentation). We avoid any translation in the pipeline by just enforcing this directly on ping names.

  • Historical Reasons

I’ve known for a while how to override bash builtins, but it was something I’d long filed under “ok but why” in my mental repository of software esoterica. Until I saw this comment I hadn’t considered how useful it could be.
I’ve long held the position that our tools are so often ahumanist junk because we’re so deeply beholden to a history we don’t understand, and in my limited experience with the various DevOps toolchains, they definitely feel like Stockholm Spectrum products of that particular zeitgeist. It’s a longstanding gripe I’ve got with that entire class of tools, Docker, Vagrant and the like; how narrow their notions of a “working development environment” are. Source, dependencies, deploy scripts and some operational context, great, but… not much else?

Last week in telecoms: rumours of a Deutsche Telekom/Orange merger, new action plan for Telefonica

 Cache
(Telecompaper) There was major news concerning the largest incumbents of Europe, Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefonica, in week 48. Infrastructure dealings and a number of unlisted companies demanded some attention as well. The Telecompaper European Telecom Services index ended the week up 0.7%. The EuroStoxx 50 index was up 0.4 percent. As a result, the year-to-date underperformance of the telecoms sector was stable at around 14 points. There were two double digit winners, Tele Columbus (+28%) and Syn (Vodafone Iceland, +14%).

Bovine milk, type 1 diabetes, and the Icelandic exception

Michael Greger MD blogs at NutritionFacts.org: The tight correlation among countries between the incidence of type 1 diabetes in children and cow’s milk consumption didn’t account for Iceland. Indeed, studies correlating dairy intake in children and adolescents with the incidence of type 1 diabetes deliberately excluded the Icelandic data. Why? Is it because of genetics? Others still just express their sexuality differently: some people are a bit more esoteric or intellectual in their own nature and personality than physical, so physical expressions don't feel harmonious with who they are. Some people, for sure, do have sexual issues, which include masturbation not feeling okay or comfortable because of abuse or other trauma, and some people have low or no libido due to certain health issues (like diabetes, depression or hormonal imbalances) or as a side effect of certain medications (like antidepressants or birth control pills).Any of this is totally okay, even if it's not "normal," if by normal, we mean most common. animal dildo

gay sex toys Compliment your partner at least once a day. If you're in a new relationship, this shouldn't be difficult: You're constantly being surprised and awed by the things you learn about each other every day. But exchanging compliments daily is a good habit to get into early on, because if you end up in a long term relationship or marriage, you might find yourself taking your partner for granted.. gay sex toys

Following her breakout role in the Coen Brothers' "Raising Arizona vibrators," Holly Hunter starred in James L. The banter is sharp and funny, mixed in with asides over journalistic ethics and the pressures involved with getting the news on the air, even if it means running with the tape over ever obstacle imaginable.

wholesale sex toys That idea goes something like this: A man's sexual default setting is, apprently, "Yes, Please," 24/7, and he is interested in getting physical with any woman that he finds attractive. It is then the job of the woman to keep a cool head (which is, again, according to this framework, easy for her, because her brain isn't being flooded by those sexy, sexy thoughts) and decide whether or not the sex should happen. This is, as you may have already noticed, also a great foundation for one of our culture's favorite rape myth: that it is a woman's job to not tempt a man, since he can't stop once he's started. But all of this, too all of this is simply not true.Neither men nor women are "naturally" predisposed to anything when it comes to this. wholesale sex toys

The unsettling feeling that builds throughout "Burning" doesn't come from the twisty turny plot, but from the characters themselves. At first, Ben (Steven Yeun) seems to just be a charming Gangnam resident who swoops in at an inconvenient time for protagonist Jongsu (Ah in Yoo), who has just fallen for Ben's maybe girlfriend Haemi (Jong seo Jun). But Jongsu's distaste for Ben seems more warranted as the film progresses, especially when the latter reveals that he torches abandoned greenhouses for fun.

THE END (for now...)

 Cache
At Auckland Airport, I am waiting for my flight to Heathrow via Los Angeles.

For two weeks I’ve been preparing Caramor for her extended stay in Whangarei. Leaving a boat takes nearly as much time as preparing to go sailing; the sails need to be taken off, boiled batteries taken out, sun covers made, moving parts greased, others oiled, the engine desalted, everything checked, always lots of cleaning, sorting and recycling, packing gear for the UK, selling stuff we no longer want and applying for jobs. I was short listed for an interview (Skype call), unfortunately I came second.

Kath dressed for her interview (shorts underneath off course!)

Caramor has been allocated a great spot overlooking the marina, right next to the BBQ area. (We’ll probably get back to find sausages sticking out of all her through-hull fittings!) David has promised to look after her and no doubt Steve and Mo will keep an eye on her as well.

Carolyn, Ian, Bridget and Brian joined me for a BBQ on my last night at Riverside Drive

It is with a great deal of sadness that I am leaving Caramor, she has been our home for five and a half years and I will miss her. On a cheerful note, in a few hours’ time Franco and I will be together again.

All that is left is to say goodbye to you, whether you read this diary regularly or just dipped in from time to time, it’s been a pleasure to share our journey with you.

If you have enjoyed reading, please join me in making a donation to the SEA LIFE Trust. I am hoping to raise £5,000 over the next two years to support the work they do to protect our oceans. Please visit Caramor’s JustGiving page for more details.

The SEA LIFE Trust is a registered charity (no. 1175859) working globally to protect the world’s oceans and the amazing marine life that lives within them.

The charity champions the need for plastic-free oceans, sustainable fishing, effective Marine Protected Areas and an end to over-exploitation of marine life through global projects and campaigns, as well as at marine animal sanctuaries in the UK and Iceland.

Europe leads the world with its number of liberalized laws on abortion, but many women still face access barriers due to regulatory restrictions or regressive threats
Primary Content

(PRESS RELEASE) --A new comparative overview of European abortion laws, released today by the Center for Reproductive Rights, reveals that more than 95% of women of reproductive age currently live in countries where laws allow abortion either on request or on broad social grounds.

This impressive statistic nevertheless masks the fact that some of these countries maintain restrictive pre-conditions, such as mandatory counselling or enforced waiting periods, that can impede or delay women accessing services. In addition, abortion is still outlawed or extremely restricted in six countries in the region.

The report, European Abortion Laws: A Comparative Overview, outlines that the trend is squarely towards positive and progressive liberalizing reform in the European region, such as the recent legalization of abortion on request in Cyprus, Ireland and Iceland. It also warns, however, that the region remains at considerable risk of attempts to rollback abortion rights, such as current proposals before the Slovakian parliament that would introduce extreme mandatory requirements prior to abortion that are contrary to international human rights principles and law.

The new report reveals that, currently, across the European region:

  • Thirty-nine countries (ranging right across the continent, from Portugal and Spain in the West to Turkey and the Russian Federation in the East) have legalized abortion on request (i.e where abortion is legal without the need for a medical practitioner or other authority to certify a particular reason for the abortion)
  • Two countries (Finland and the United Kingdom) have legalized abortion on broad social grounds
  • Six countries retain highly restrictive abortion laws – Andorra, Malta and San Marino do not allow abortion in any circumstances; Liechtenstein allows abortion only when a woman’s life or health is at risk, or where the pregnancy resulted from sexual assault; Monaco and Poland allow abortion only when a woman’s life or health is at risk, following a sexual assault, or where a severe foetal anomaly has been detected

Some countries have set time limits on abortion on request at between 18-24 weeks of pregnancy, while others set these limits around the end of the first trimester of pregnancy. All of these countries’ laws allow access later in pregnancy in specific circumstances, such as where a woman’s health or life is at risk, and here the standard practice is not to impose any time limitation at all.

Despite having legalized abortion, some European countries have maintained a range of procedural rules and regulations that can impede and delay women’s access to abortion care.  These include:

  • mandatory waiting periods between the date on which an abortion is first requested and the date on which it may take place;
  • laws compelling women to undergo counselling, which can sometimes be required to be biased or directive;
  • short rigid time limits for accessing abortion that may disproportionately affect certain groups of women; and
  • criminalising women or medical professionals who act outside of the legal framework for abortion provision

Although the general trend in Europe has been towards increasing liberalization and removing barriers to access, in recent years some countries in Europe have attempted to roll back existing legal protections for women’s access to abortion care. Initiatives have ranged from attempts to introduce regressive pre-conditions before abortions can take place, such as mandatory biased counselling, or waiting periods, to attempts to fully ban abortion or remove existing legal grounds for abortion.

“Women in Europe have fought long and hard for legal entitlements to access abortion care,” said Leah Hector, Regional Director for Europe at the Center for Reproductive Rights.

As recent events in Poland and Slovakia demonstrate, rights to access abortion may be arbitrarily threatened by attempts to introduce new barriers or scale back on the legality of abortion care, and we must be ever vigilant.

“Comparative reports like this one help to capture the current status of abortion law and practice across the region, and provide advocates and policy makers with information on where and how their efforts should be focused moving forward. There is much progress still to be made if Europe is to achieve the promise of gender equality.”
