Filipe Albuquerque vence 500 Kms de Interlagos - Última prova da Porsche Império GT3 Cup Brasil

 Cache

 Cache

Jet Connections: ELO Related Albums 1979-80

 Cache
#1,497: With the back to back success of "Out Of The Blue" (1978), "Discovery" (1979) and "Xanadu" (1980) under their belts, Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) were at their commercial peak as the seventies lapsed into the eighties both in terms of record and ticket sales. Everything they released charted whether it was a single, a new album, a compilation or even a boxed set. This was, of course, good news for both the band and their label since 1975: Don Arden's Jet Records.

ELO were still regarded as a septet by many fans at this time, even though their studio recordings began to revolve around Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy and Kelly Groucutt. It was during this time that various members of ELO's string section began to release albums via Jet (when distributed by CBS) in their own right and/or with side projects. Four albums were issued in total (and a number of singles too, the subject of a future KJS/elobf article) and although only one of the quartet charted, they did and still do generate interest in the ELO fan base for avid vinyl collectors ...

Louis Clark ~ "(per-spek-tiv)n." (1979) ~ JETLP218
Surprising non-charting orchestral outing by the ELO arranger with a little help from his friends including Roy Wood and former Wizzard saxophonist Nick Pentelow.

Violinski ~ "No Cause For Alarm" (1979) ~ JETLP219
Mik Kaminski and his blue violin brigade featuring ex-ELO bassist Mike de Albuquerque crept into the UK Top 50 at #49 with their debut album. Lead single "Clog Dance" (JET136) also made the UK Top 20, peaking at #17.

Wilson Gale & Co. ~ "Gift Wrapped" (1980) ~ JETLP223
ELO cellist Melvyn Gale teamed up with Frank Wilson for this hard to find album with Hugh McDowell also contributing.

Violinski ~ "Stop Cloning About" (1980) ~ JETLP232
Their second album featured "Silent Love" which would likely have been another hit single as Radio 1's "Record of the Week" but for an "account problem" with the Jet label.

It's worth noting that during the Jet Records period between 1975 and 1983, every record released by individual members of ELO (other than those noted above by Mik Kaminski and Violinskidid not trouble the charts. That list includes the solo singles "Doin' That Crazy Thing" (1977) by none other than Jeff Lynne (UP36281/SJET102) and "Let There Be Drums" (JET777) by Bev Bevan! You may also enjoy perusing these elobeatlesforever (elobf) articles on similar subject matter ...

DIRECTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRY

HOPE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH – JOB DESCRIPTION (2019)

The Director of Student Ministries will develop and lead an evangelistically fruitful, growing, vibrant high school ministry that partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus in line with the vision and values of Hope Church.

ABOUT HOPE CHURCH

Hope is a multigenerational, missional, and gospel-centered Church family that has been a part of Albuquerque for over fifty years. We long to be a place where those who believe, and those who do not yet believe, can discover the life changing power of Jesus. We believe that the kind of change we most need—freedom from our self-centeredness, materialism, pride, un-forgiveness, addictions and greed—is impossible apart from the gospel.

Currently our high school ministry averages between 40-50 students a week and 10 leaders. Our student ministry has grown significantly in the last few years both with students and leaders. Our group gathers on Wednesday nights for worship, teaching, and gospel community style small groups. There are both a strong community of students and a team of committed adult leaders. Each year the students participate in a summer beach camp in California, a winter camp, monthly events, and service projects throughout the summer. We are looking for a youth director who can build on our strengths and who will bring vision, creativity, strong teaching, and a passion for discipleship.

  4. Lives out of an on-going experience of the grace and mercy of God found in Christ.

Agree with all of the above (I have friends and family from SCAL; the family is having to move out of state because they can't buy a home). Think about what it is about LA that you love. The idea? The weather? The arts scene? Then... that's what your goal is, a place with great weather and outside cafes, perhaps. The arts scene? Austin, Albuquerque, and many others. Beach? My cousin & family have lived there since birth, and they have to make it a field trip 2x a year, because the traffic is so bad from their more affordable inland location. I'm not trying to be negative. I am in CAL and can't afford to buy here, but don't want to move yet. but... it's so expensive that even though I'm in the 90% percentile for my age group, in earned income, I spend 60% of my take home on rent plus utilities. And, CA state income tax for the highest bracket is 13%. So I'm not taking home what someone in a lower income tax state would be, to start with. By the time I buy gas for the commute ($4 a gallon, and that's regular), pay the high car insurance, and drive the distances to get to work, I have eaten up almost all the rest of my discretionary income. (My car is 15 years old... at least we don't have rust here). And yes, I pack my lunch. I have zero idea how folks who make less, get by, although I believe it is because they are not saving for retirement. Or they are living on their credit cards. Oh, and the deposit on this place to rent - close to 10K. Ouch.. And the state and local taxes - the sales tax is 10%. So every single thing almost (except food)... is more highly taxed. One of my friends figured out, she works until the middle of October before she is actually taking anything home for herself. And blew her tire out on the giant pothole on the freeway. (higher gas taxes have not gone into road repairs). Just saying... the allure and the reality are two entirely different things. Make sure you've done your budget, have a plan - and know what it is you really want. There are some wondeful, wonderful cities out there, with vibrant art scenes, more to do outdoors, and rich, diverse people with a broad range of interests. You may want to spend some planning time looking at the apartments online for a sense of what you get (and read the reviews), and research. Look at and be clear what kind of job you can get, what the commute is like, and do your budget. Then take a vacation to come here and really try to apartment and job hunt, and get a sense of whether you'd be safe after dark, how far you'd really be from any of the glamorous areas, and whether you'd have time - with the job you'd have to work - to do some of the activities you are moving here to do. All the best....

A Decade of Care: Hanes Launches 10th National Sock Drive to Help the Homeless; Tops 3 Million Donated Pairs

 Cache

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., November 22, 2019 /3BL Media/ – Small gifts often have the most meaning.

For the millions of people living homeless, a clean pair of socks is often described as “the gift of humanity.” Hanes, America’s No. 1 basic apparel, underwear and sock brand, is partnering with organizations fighting homelessness nationwide to deliver comfort to those who need it most through the Hanes National Sock Drive. The brand is marking 10 years of helping provide care and compassion during this year’s drive by:

  • Donating more than 250,000 pairs of socks directly to organizations fighting homelessness in all 50 states, along with Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Since the program’s inception in 2009, Hanes has provided more than 3 million pairs of socks – one of the most requested items by relief agencies – to help the homeless.

  • Giving an additional pair of socks for every order of any apparel placed in December on Hanes.com. Socks will be provided to local homeless shelters.

  • Partnering with Rainier Fruit Company for its second “Pears for Pairs” campaign, which is currently running in United Supermarkets, Harris Teeter, Wegmans, and Lunds & Byerlys stores. From late September through January, Rainier is donating a portion of the proceeds from bulk and bagged pear sales to the Hanes National Sock Drive. In 2018, the Pears for Pairs campaign resulted in 20,000 pairs of socks being donated to five nonprofits.

  • Offering consumers the opportunity to participate directly in the program by visiting www.hanes.com/donate to gift socks ($1), women’s underwear ($1), men’s underwear ($1.50) and bras ($6) that will be distributed in needed styles and sizes.

  • Continuing its 10-year collaboration with Invisible People and its founder, Mark Horvath, to help raise awareness about homelessness. Invisible People uses innovative storytelling, educational resources and advocacy to help change how the public views homelessness and those living homeless in the United States and abroad.

“Most of us take basic apparel for granted, but we know a new, clean pair of socks can mean a lot to those experiencing homelessness,” said Sidney Falken, chief branding officer, HanesBrands. “We are committed to bringing a little comfort to those who need it most – and it is incredibly gratifying to have others, including many individuals across the country, join us in this effort.”

More than 100 agencies, including The Salvation Army Bell Shelter (Bell, California), Homeward Bound (Asheville, North Carolina) and Compassion Outreach Ministries (Columbus, Ohio), have received sock donations from Hanes.

“Small things really do make a big difference to our clients,” said Steve Lytle, director of The Salvation Army Bell Shelter. “The smile on a client’s face when she received a clean pair of socks for the first time in months was priceless. There was joy in her eyes and it was clear that the socks were the most precious gift she could have received in that moment. Another client said his gift of clean socks was a sign that there are people who care and that his life did matter.”

Homeward Bound distributes more than 2,000 pairs of socks a month to those living homeless.

“Homelessness is a community problem and it will take everyone’s support to help end the epidemic,” said Ashley Campbell, the agency’s outreach specialist. “Right now, some of your neighbors are living outside, in tents and under bridges, vulnerable to inclement weather and violence, stripped of dignity and our collective respect.

“There are so many ways to help,” Campbell continued. “Educate yourself about homelessness in your community, volunteer at your local agency fighting this issue or simply make a donation that would help a nonprofit save its limited resources.”

Jeffrey Tabor, director of TWO Men’s Ministry House for Compassion Outreach Ministries of Ohio, added that there is no donation too small to be used for good to fulfill a basic human need.

“Imagine the importance of just one pair of socks when you are focused on keeping your feet dry and warm during the cold winter months,” Tabor said. “That’s why we are so thankful for our partnership with Hanes, which has fulfilled an immediate, basic human need for so many people.”

Lytle underscores, however, that sometimes it all boils down to human contact. “Acknowledge people who are experiencing homelessness with a smile or hello,” he said. “By engaging with a person who is experiencing homelessness we are saying ‘I see you and you matter.’”

The Hanes National Sock Drive is part of Hanes for Good, the corporate responsibility program of Hanes’ parent company, HanesBrands (NYSE:HBI).

Event Update For 2019-11-27

 Cache

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Thanks for the memorable evening to Jamie, Elizabeth and Bob.

Take heart Taoseños, it’ll be 46 by Tuesday. Maybe we’ll go to Palm Springs.

Two Young Local Actresses Cast as Lulu in WAITRESS During Albuquerque Engagement

 Cache

The Tony nominated hilarious, hit musical WAITRESS, which opens December 12th and runs through the 15th has cast two young area actresses to take on the role of "Lulu" during the Albuquerque engagement.

Annabeth Burnett, 5, and Genevieve Miller, 5, both of Albuquerque will alternate the role of "Lulu," the daughter of the production's main character, Jenna.

WAITRESS tells the story of "Jenna", an expert pie baker working at a local diner and stuck in a loveless marriage. Her salvation comes in the form of her daughter, "Lulu."

Both girls were chosen via an audition process held at a local theatre's rehearsal space on October 30th, 2019. Over 15 girls participated in the auditions, which were presided over by members of the WAITRESS company. The character of "Lulu" is cast locally for the 6-performance tour market and two girls are chosen to share the role. Each girl chosen will perform in 3 performances each during the engagement.

Annabeth loves to sing and dance both at home and in public. After her audition for Waitress she said "I had so much fun. I didn't want it to end!" Her previous performance experience includes her Christmas and Thanksgiving shows at her preschool.

She loves to laugh, dance and write her own songs/choreograph her own routines and perform in our home. "Annabeth has been moving and grooving since she was born and has been the most expressive kiddo I've ever met!" says her Mom. "Annabeth is excited to make her theater debut in Waitress. She is a lover of life, God, adventure, dogs, singing, dancing, laughing, and her family."

Genevieve does not have any prior acting experience (beyond that which happens in our home.) She is constantly pretending to be different people and animals and tries to draw the rest of the family into her imagined world - assigning us roles, as she sees fit. She loves music and was uninterested in any movies besides Mary Poppins or The Sound of Music for nearly 2 years. Genevieve is a Kindergartner.

Regarding casting and the process: Genevieve did not know what to expect at her audition, but she came out proclaiming "That was fun!" She found Curtis to be quite funny and enjoyed her few minutes with the casting team. As a parent, I appreciated that we could sign up for time slots, as that made the audition process easy. Genevieve is very excited to be cast in the show.

Meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as "The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie" and "Betrayed By My Eggs Pie." When a baking contest in a nearby county - and a satisfying encounter with someone new - show Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it. Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.

Waitress opened April 24, 2016 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). Based upon the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, WAITRESS is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by seven-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles (composer of "Love Song" and "Brave"), choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. The WAITRESS Tour features Choreography Re-created by Abbey O'Brien, Tour Direction re-created by Susanna Wolk, and includes Scott Pask, Scenic Design; Suttirat Anne Larlarb, Costume Design; Ken Billington, Lighting Design; Jonathan Deans, Sound Design; Wigs by Richard Mawbey; original music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo, with tour music supervision by Ryan Cantwell. Arrangements by Nadia DiGiallonardo and Sara Bareilles, and Orchestrations by Sara Bareilles and The Waitress Band. Waitress is produced by NETworks Presentations LLC. Casting by Stewart/Whitley.

"WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly, and is "sweet, sassy and passionate," according to New York Magazine.

"It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune. Don't miss this uplifting and hilarious musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
