JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER CAUCUS CO-CHAIRS APPLAUD DEAL TO REDUCE COST OF F-35 FIGHTER JETS

     Cache

Washington, D.C. –  This week co-chairs of the Joint Strike Fighter Caucus, Reps. Marc A. Veasey (TX-33), John B. Larson (CT-01), Martha Roby (AL-02), and Michael R. Turner (OH-10), applauded the announcement by the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin that the next contract for 478 F-35 aircraft has been finalized and the cost is now the lowest in program history.

"The announcement of the F-35 Lot 12-14 contract is a welcomed step forward in bolstering our national security and securing jobs for North Texans that work in the defense and aerospace sectors," said Veasey. "This will also ensure that our nation's military has the tools it needs to defend our country and protect those that serve us."

“This announcement solidifies the Pentagon’s continued investment in the F-35 program which strengthens our national defense at a significant value for the American people. This is a critical agreement for our military, our allies, and more than 1,500 American manufacturers across 46 states. The F-35 program contributes to over 7,000 high-skilled manufacturing jobs in Connecticut. This week’s announcement cuts costs for taxpayers and secures manufacturing jobs for years to come,” said Larson.

"I’m pleased with the significant news from the Pentagon regarding the decreased cost of production for the next order of  F-35 aircraft," said Roby. "We are now seeing the lowest aircraft price in program history which further demonstrates the necessity for certainty in all defense spending. This is a vital step for continued support of the selfless service members who risk their lives each day to protect our freedom.”

“The F-35’s unique capabilities and lethality have enhanced our air superiority and that of our allies. This is an important milestone for the Joint Strike Fighter Program and our national security by improving the affordability of this critical platform for American taxpayers,” said Turner.

    K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silly)

     Cache
"KISS” (also called the “KISS principle” or “KISS system") usually stands for “Keep It Simple, Stupid.” Like the harmless kiss, the KISS principle—used in the military, business and government—holds that the simple method is the most preferred. The Navy instituted a “Project KISS” in 1960. The first “KISS” citation, however, appears in print in the Rocky Mount (NC) Sunday Telegram on May 4, 1958, and does not appear to be related to the military. “Keep It Short and Simple” was printed in the Minneapolis (MN) Star in 1938 and The Wall Street Journal in 1948. “KISS Keep It Short and Simple” was printed in The Star-Phoenix (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) on November 6, 1970. “Keep It Simple Silly” was printed in the Alamogordo (NM) Daily News on September 19, 1971. “Keep It Simple, Sweetie” was printed in the Sunday Post-Crescent (Appleton, WI) on November 4, 1973. “Keep it Small and Simple” was printed in The Sunday Freeman (Kingston, NY) on May 23, 1976. “Keep It Stupid, Simple” was printed in The Daily Oklahoman/Times (Oklahoma City, OK) on November 2, 1984. “Keep It Simple and Straightforward” was posted on the newsgroup soc.culture.china on November 4, 1992. Wikipedia: KISS principle KISS, an acronym for “keep it simple, stupid” or “keep it stupid simple”, is a design principle noted by the U.S. Navy in 1960. The KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore, simplicity should be a key goal in design, and unnecessary complexity should be avoided. The phrase has been associated with aircraft engineer Kelly Johnson. The term “KISS principle” was in popular use by 1970. Variations on the phrase include: “Keep it simple, silly”, “keep it short and simple”, “keep it simple and straightforward”, “keep it small and simple”, or “keep it stupid simple”. Origin The acronym was reportedly coined by Kelly Johnson, lead engineer at the Lockheed Skunk Works (creators of the Lockheed U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird spy planes, among many others). While popular usage has transcribed it for decades as “Keep it simple, stupid”, Johnson transcribed it as “Keep it simple stupid” (no comma), and this reading is still used by many authors. Russia's Su-35 Is Powerful, But Can It Defeat America's F-22 Or F-35?

     Cache

    TNI Staff

    Security,

    Russia is catching up.

Key point: Russian aircraft are closing the gap with the West, making the need for investments in next-generation fighters more important than ever.

Russia’s Su-35 fighter certainly has western defense outlets buzzing--and for good reason.

Moscow, despite heavy sanctions and an economy that has certainly seen better days, keeps pumping out new combat systems one after another--items like new tanks, submarines, nuclear weapons platforms and more.

While many were indeed designed and planned for ahead of the imposition of sanctions, Russia is clearly making a big effort to modernize its armed forces, especially its air force, and moving past older Soviet platforms. The Su-35 is a good example of such efforts.

So how would the Su-35 do against America’s best planes? How would it fare against an American air force that is clearly the best in the world.  How would, for example, the Su-35 do in a combat situation against Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter? How would Russia’s new plane do against older aircraft like the F-15 or say F-16?

Such scenarios matter--and not just in the context of a possible NATO/Russia or Middle East situation, but now that Russia is set to deliver the Su-35 to China, such comparisons matter even more. There are many places where all of these lethal aircraft will overlap, making such comparisons even more timely.

Compiled below are three articles, written several years ago, that looks at these questions in depth, combined in one posting for your reading pleasure. With that said, let the debate begin.

The Reason Russia Wants Its Own Scary “Spookovik” Gunship

By Senior Airman Andy M. Kin, USAF - http://www.afsoc.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/060227-F-7979S-023.jpg, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=4434344

Could it be as spooky as America's AC-130?

Key point: Moscow has seen what America's AC-130 gunships can do and they want to replicate the Air Force's success.

    Call it the “Spookovik.”

Russia wants to make its own version of America’s legendary AC-130 “Spooky” gunship.

“An analogue of American AC-130 aircraft directly supporting ground forces on the AC-130 battlefield is being developed in Russia,” according to Russian news agency TASS. “An advance design has already been developed on the basis of the An-12 transport with 57-millimeter guns.”

“The OCD [experimental design work] is to develop a flying battery -- an aircraft directly supporting troops on the battlefield, similar to the American AC-130 gunships,” a Russian defense source told TASS during a recent defense trade show. “The An-12 military transport aircraft with two 57-mm guns will be used as a flying laboratory.”

While the U.S. Air Force has favored the 105-millimeter cannon as the big gun on the AC-130, Russia favors the smaller 57-millimeter for the Spookovik, as well as its newer armored troop carriers and self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery. However, the Russian gunship would be armed with smaller-caliber guns and automatic grenade launchers.

That’s more or less comparable to the Lockheed Martin AC-130, a gun-toting C-130 Hercules transport that combines a cargo plane’s lift capacity and long-range with artillery too heavy to be carried by a fighter. Its combat debut dates back to the late 1960s, when the legendary AC-130A appeared out of the dark skies to hose down the Viet Cong with 40- and 20-millimeter cannon, and 7.62-millimeter miniguns. The AC-130H Spectre and its 105-millimeter cannon appeared in 1972, followed by the current AC-130U Spooky, armed with a 105-millimeter, a 40-millimeter, and a 25-millimeter cannon—not much less than the gun armament of a U.S. Navy destroyer. The newest AC-130J Ghostrider has 105- and 30-millimeter cannon, plus smart weapons such as the Small Diameter Bomb and the Griffin mini-missile.

June Duprez 1944: British forces land at Salonika, in Greece. 1944: U.S. planes pound the harbor at Manila in the Philippines and also destroy 249 Japanese aircraft. June Duprez *June was born in Teddington, England during an air raid on May 14, 1918. Her father, Fred Duprez, was an American vaudevillian who found stage and film work in England. She herself picked up an interest in performing and eventually joined the Coventry Repertory Company to gather the necessary stage experience. She made her film debut as an extra in 1935. June married at a young age and her career was initially encouraged by her first husband, a Harley Street doctor. But once she started flirting with stardom, he became increasingly envious and possessive and their marriage fell apart. True enough, her sultry and exotic appearances in such British films as "The Spy in Black" (1939), "Four Feathers" (1939) and, especially, Alexander Korda's "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940) made a star out of her and she was quickly ushered to Hollywood to capitalize on this newly-found fame. Although she stayed in America throughout WWII, both Korda and June's agent set her price too high -- at $50,000 per picture. This pretty much put her out of contention and she found herself working very little in the next few years. Her most notable American picture during that time was "None But the Lonely Heart" (1944) opposite Cary Grant. June subsequently left Hollywood in 1946 and discovered a few roles on the Broadway stage. She retired altogether when she married for a second time in 1948 to a well-to-do sportsman. They had two daughters but divorced in 1965. June lived in Rome for a time, then returned to London to live out the remainder of her life. She died on October 30, 1984 at age 66 following an extended illness. Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Ad - Nov. 1943

Boeing сака да ги врати луѓето на Месечината најбрзо што може

     Cache
