New Delhi: India will discuss modalities with Russia pertaining to defence co-production during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's three-day visit to the transcontinental nation, officials said here on Monday.
Singh will embark on his visit to Russia on Monday. During the visit, he will co-chair the 19th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC).
According to officials in the Defence Ministry, Singh will also hold extensive discussions with his Russian counterpart General Sergei Shoigu covering all areas of military-to-military cooperation and defence industrial cooperation. He will also inaugurate, along with the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the India-Russia Defence Industry Cooperation Conference.
"The conference will discuss ways to promote defence industrial cooperation between India and Russia, technology transfer and investment in India in defence industry under the 'Make in India' programme," said a Defence Ministry statement.
As per sources, a delegation of defence industry captains is also accompanying Singh to Russia in order to explore avenues of strategic partnerships in spare and equipment production. There has been no word from the Defence Ministry yet whether Singh is expected to enter into deals with Russia, if any, for purchase of platforms, equipment or arms during the visit.
Officials though confirmed that Singh might visit Russian defence production facilities in and around St Petersburg during his tour to the country. Singh is scheduled to visit St Petersburg where he will place a wreath at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery honouring soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during the Second World War.
Last week, Singh had travelled to Tashkent, Uzbekistan where he represented India at the Council of Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. India and Uzbekistan signed three MoUs pertaining to military education and military medicine during the course of his three-day visit to the Central Asian country.
Webster University Uzbekistan held its grand opening ceremony on Nov. 1, beginning with a ribbon-cutting, and followed by a welcome from two current students and the Webster Uzbekistan Academic Director John Grainger. Speeches were given by Webster University Chancellor Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble, President Julian Z. Schuster, and Abdujabbor Abduvohidov, adviser to the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Science, Education, Health and Sports. A short musical program followed, featuring traditional and contemporary Uzbek music and song.
Webster's 2nd-in-Missouri ranking by WalletHub was covered in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and by KSDK, the NBC affiliate. ... Kelly-Kate Pease was interviewed and quoted by El Mercurio about the controversial election of Venezuela to the United Nations Human Rights Council. ... Webster's campus in Tashkent was covered by University World News as part of Uzbekistan's efforts to expand higher education throughout the country.

Growing up in the 1980s and ’90s, Germany was off limits. My parents were of the sort who wouldn’t purchase German cars and proclaimed they would never set foot in Germany. “I wouldn’t give them a dime,” summed up my mother’s feelings on the matter.
I couldn’t blame them. My mother’s parents, originally from Poland, fled from the Nazis and survived the Holocaust by living out the war in Siberia and Uzbekistan. Many of their friends and family were not so fortunate. My grandparents rarely spoke about their wartime experiences, but their trauma no doubt seeped its way first into my mother’s formative years, and then into mine.
This memoir by one of the foremost scholars of the Soviet period spans three continents and more than half a century―from the 1950s when Lewis Siegelbaum's father was a victim of McCarthyism up through the implosion of the Soviet Union and beyond. Siegelbaum recreates journeys of discovery and self-discovery in the tumult of student rebellion at Columbia University during the Vietnam War, graduate study at Oxford, and Moscow at the height of détente. His story takes the reader into the Soviet archives, the coalfields of eastern Ukraine, and the newly independent Uzbekistan.
An intellectual autobiography that is also a biography of the field of Anglophone Soviet history, Stuck on Communism: Memoir of a Russian Historian (Northern Illinois UP, 2019) is a guide for how to lead a life on the Left that integrates political and professional commitments. Siegelbaum reveals the attractiveness of Communism as an object of study and its continued relevance decades after its disappearance from the landscape of its origin.
Through the journey of a book that is in the end a romance, Siegelbaum discovers the truth in the notion that no matter what historians take as their subject, they are always writing about themselves.
Siegelbaum is the author of books on the effort to mobilize industry in tsarist Russia during World War I (1983), the Stakhanovite movement of the 1930s (1988), the Soviet state and society in the 1920s (1994), and the award-winning Cars for Comrades: The Life of the Soviet Automobile (2008). He co-authored with Jim von Geldern the award-winning website “Seventeen Moments in Soviet History,” an online sourcebook used extensively to teach Soviet history, and with Leslie Page Moch Broad is My Native Land: Repertoires and Regimes of Migration in Russia’s Twentieth Century (2014). He has edited two books and co-edited six others, most recently Empire and Belonging in the Eurasian Borderlands (2019) with Krista Goff. His memoir, Stuck on Communism: Memoir of a Russian Historian, is published by Northern Illinois University Press.
Steven Seegel is professor of history at University of Northern Colorado.

* A new poll found that 56 percent of registered voters believe President Trump will win again in 2020 * That includes 85 percent of Republicans, 51 percent of independents and 35 percent of Democrats, according to the Politico/Morning Consult survey * Pollsters found that voters believed that Trump's voters were twice as likely than Hillary Clinton's to be 'very motivated' to go vote * Another poll found that the percentage of voters who believe Trump should win re-election hasn't significantly changed since the impeachment inquiry opened
A majority of registered voters believe President Trump will win again in 2020.
A new Politico/Morning Consult poll found that 56 percent of all voters said Trump will be re-elected next year. The president obviously has an edge with Republicans, with 85 percent saying a Trump 2.0 is happening.
But a majority of independents - 51 percent - agreed. Even a third of Democrats, 35 percent, said they believed there would be four more years of President Trump.
WNU Editor: He will be difficult to defeat. President Trump has the advantage of the incumbency and the bully-pulpit. The economy is also doing well, and his base overwhelmingly supports him. The Democrat candidates for President are also not inspiring, and I have trouble seeing them being able to attract independent voters. But the election is still far away. A lot can happen in 12 months.
As Trump allies denounce the whistleblower, pressure is building on CIA Director Gina Haspel to take a stand, say current and ex intelligence officials.
WASHINGTON — As President Donald Trump and his allies continue to denounce the CIA whistleblower whose complaint led to an impeachment investigation, pressure is building on the spy agency's director, Gina Haspel, to take a stand on the matter, current and former intelligence officials tell NBC News.
"It will be incumbent on her to protect the whistleblower — and by extension, the organization — moving forward," Marc Polymeropoulos, a recently retired CIA officer who oversaw operations in Europe and Russia, said in an interview. "This is a seminal moment for her leadership, and I'm confident she will do the right thing."
So far, Haspel has been publicly silent as Trump has railed about the whistleblower, a CIA analyst, on Twitter. So has the director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire.
WNU Editor: There is a problem with this "CIA analyst". He was removed from the White House for lying and leaking. He is implicated in filing a complaint against President Trump and Ukraine that has led to this impeachment inquiry, even though his complaint is at odds with the transcript that was released. He is a well known Democrat activist who is closely affiliated with former Obama intelligence officials whose opposition to President Trump is well known. Bottom line. This is a person who has used his CIA position to pursue a political agenda against the President and his policies. In this context, this is someone that I am sure CIA Director Gina Haspel does not want to step in and defend.
House Democrats have released the latest in the series of heavily-redacted transcripts of the secret hearings they had undertaken in recent weeks - that of Bill Taylor - the top US diplomat in Ukraine - ahead of his public testimony next week.
As The Hill notes, Taylor is viewed as a key witness who previously testified in meticulous detail about what he considered an effort by Trump and his allies to pressure Ukraine into opening investigations that would benefit Trump politically.
In leaked copies of his 15-page opening statement, Taylor voiced concerns that the Trump administration had withheld nearly $400 million in aid as leverage to get Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open investigations into interference in the 2016 election and former Vice President Joe Biden, one of his leading 2020 political rivals.

The Department of Justice on Wednesday charged two former Twitter employees for spying on users on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
The charges allege that Ali Alzabarah and Ahmad Abouammo used their employee credentials to access information about specific Twitter users, including their email addresses, birth dates, phone numbers and internet protocol addresses. A third individual, Ahmed Almutairi, was also charged for acting as an intermediary between the Twitter employees and the Saudi government, the Justice Department said.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran resumed uranium enrichment at its underground Fordow nuclear facility, the country's Atomic Energy Organisation (AEOI) said on Thursday, further stepping away from its 2015 nuclear deal with major powers.
The agreement bans enrichment and nuclear material from Fordow. But with feedstock gas entering its centrifuges, the facility, built inside a mountain, will move from the permitted status of research plant to being an active nuclear site.
"After all successful preparations ... injection of uranium gas to centrifuges started on Thursday at Fordow ... all the process has been supervised by the inspectors of the U.N. nuclear watchdog," the AEOI said in a statement, Iranian media reported
Israel is bracing itself for war with Iranian proxies, as Tehran escalates its provocations. But what will the United States do if conflict comes?
The senior ministers of the Israeli government met twice last week to discuss the possibility of open war with Iran. They were mindful of the Iranian plan for a drone attack from Syria in August, aborted at the last minute by an Israeli air strike, as well as Iran's need to deflect attention from the mass protests against Hezbollah's rule in Lebanon. The ministers also reviewed the recent attack by Iranian drones and cruise missiles on two Saudi oil installations, reportedly concluding that a similar assault could be mounted against Israel from Iraq.
The Israel Defense Forces, meanwhile, announced the adoption of an emergency plan, code-named Momentum, to significantly expand Israel's missile defense capacity, its ability to gather intelligence on embedded enemy targets, and its soldiers' preparation for urban warfare. Israeli troops, especially in the north, have been placed on war footing. Israel is girding for the worst and acting on the assumption that fighting could break out at any time.
Washington (AFP) - President Donald Trump's son published on Wednesday the name of the alleged anonymous whistleblower whose complaint fired the impeachment inquiry against Trump, breaking strict conventions for protecting officials who reveal wrongdoing in government.
Amid calls by the president himself to expose the whistleblower, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted the name of a CIA analyst which has circulated online for weeks, and linked to a Breitbart news article implying the person was pro-Democrat and anti-Trump.
AFP could not independently verify the whistleblower's identity and is not publishing the name.

A desperate search is underway for a missing airman who disappeared into the Gulf of Mexico after suffering a parachute-jump mishap while exiting a Special Operations military plane.
The unidentified Air Force airman from the 24th Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field was exiting a C-130 four-engine aircraft over the Gulf of Mexico during a training exercise around 1.45pm Tuesday when he suddenly vanished into the water below.
'The fall happened during a parachute-jump training exercise out of Hurlburt Field,' a report from the Air Force Times said.
The Coast Guard said the airman was a staff sergeant in training and fell out of the aircraft at 1,500 feet, according to WEAR.
Twenty masked gunmen launched a failed attack on a Tajik outpost on the border with Uzbekistan. The rare attack was quashed when border forces launched a counter operation and killed most of the raiders.
At least 17 people were killed in an overnight raid by armed men on an outpost on the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Tajik authorities said on Wednesday.
"An armed group of 20 unknown masked individuals attacked a border outpost … using firearms," said Tajikistan's national security committee, according to Russian state-run news agency TASS.
Tajikistan's border forces said the assailants were members of the "Islamic State" (IS) militant group in Afghanistan.
At least five of the gunmen were detained and later provided critical intelligence during interrogations, authorities said.
World leaders have called on Iran to fulfil the terms of its 2015 nuclear deal, after it begins injecting uranium gas into centrifuges at its underground Fordow nuclear facility.
Iran has begun to further distance itself from a 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers that curbed its atomic work, local media reported on Wednesday (local time).
The deal bans nuclear material from Fordow and, with the injection of uranium gas into its centrifuges, the facility will move from its permitted status of research plant to become an active nuclear site.

↗ International prices of wheat and maize increased further in February, mainly supported by weather-related concerns and currency movements. Export price quotations of rice also continued to strengthen, although the increases were capped by subsiding global demand for Indica supplies.
↗ In East Africa, in the Sudan, prices of the main staples: sorghum, millet and wheat, continued to increase in February and reached record highs, underpinned by the removal of the wheat subsidies and the strong depreciation of the Sudanese Pound.
↗ In Southern Africa, in Madagascar, prices of rice hit record highs at the start of the year, as a result of tight supplies following a sharp drop in the 2017 output to a substantially below-average level and a weaker currency.

International prices of wheat increased in September mostly because of weather-related concerns, while maize quotations fell further on crop harvest pressure. International rice prices remained generally firm, supported by seasonally tight availabilities of fragrant rice and strong demand for higher quality Indica supplies.
In East Africa, prices of cereals remained at levels above those of a year earlier in most countries, particularly in Ethiopia reflecting seasonal tightness amid concerns over the impact of the Fall Armyworm infestation on the main harvest and in South Sudan mainly due to the ongoing conflict.
In Asia, prices of rice in Bangladesh increased again in September and reached record highs, with seasonal patterns exacerbated by the reduced 2017 main season output and concerns over the impact of the July-August floods on the second season crop, to be harvested from November.

Miguel Flores Training Camp Quotes
Super featherweight contender Miguel "El Michoacan" Flores will complete his winding road to his first world title opportunity when he takes on three-division champion Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz for the WBA Super Featherweight Title Saturday, November 23 in the FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Flores (24-2, 12 KOs) will look for a career-defining victory in the co-main event leading up to Deontay "The Bronze Bomber'' Wilder defending his WBC title in a rematch against once-beaten Cuban slugger Luis "King Kong'' Ortiz in the headlining attraction of action beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at www.mgmgrand.com or www.axs.com.
The 27-year-old was born in Mexico and grew up in Houston, Texas, where he has been training for his showdown against Santa Cruz. Flores was originally scheduled to face Santa Cruz in February for the featherweight title but was forced to withdraw because of an ankle injury.
With a dominant stoppage victory over Luis May in June, the injury is behind Flores as he prepares to challenge a fellow Mexican-American warrior in Santa Cruz on pay-per-view from Las Vegas. Here is what Flores had to say about training camp, Santa Cruz and more:
On his recent training camp with coach Aaron Navarro:
"I've been with coach Aaron Navarro my entire career, even as an amateur, and together we've grown really tight. Edward Jackson, my strength and conditioning coach, and Bobby Benton my co-trainer and cutman, have been with us for a very long time as well. Together we took my training to the next level for this fight. Everyone will see the progress we've made during this camp when I step in the ring."
On his matchup with Leo Santa Cruz:
"Leo Santa Cruz is an incredible fighter and he's been fighting at the championship level for many years now. It will be my job to match him punch for punch, and that's what we've been working on. We've made a couple of small changes to my style, but nothing major. Everyone will see what those changes are on fight night. People our doubting me, but it's fueling my fire and I'm determined to prove everyone wrong."
On fighting for his first world title:
"Fighting for a world title is something I've been striving for my whole career. This is a dream come true for me. I've worked extremely hard to get here and I'm not going to let the big moment affect me. My time has finally come and I'm going to leave everything I have in the ring. I'm going to shock the world."
On fighting in Las Vegas on FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View for the first time:
"I've been a professional fighter for over ten years and never gotten to experience what it's like to fight in Las Vegas, the boxing capital of the world. So, to say I'm excited is an understatement. On top of that, I'll be fighting on this FOX Sports platform, the new home for professional boxing. My fists will be flying and everyone watching is in for a big surprise. Like I said, I'm going to shock the world."
Devin Haney Faces Santiago in Maiden World Title Defense
Devin Haney will face Alfredo Santiago in the first defense of his WBC World Lightweight title at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday November 9, live on DAZN in the US, Sky Sports in the UK and distributed globally on FITE.
TICKETS FOR KSI-LOGAN PAUL II FEATURING HANEY-SANTIAGO ARE ON SALE NOW - CLICK HERE
Haney (23-0 15 KOs) was elevated to full champion at the recent WBC Convention in Cancun, Mexico, following his dominant performance against Zaur Abdullaev in New York in September where he overpowered the unbeaten Russian over four blistering rounds to force Abdullaev to retire, and land 'The Dream' the interim belt at 135lbs.
Now Haney makes the short trip from his Las Vegas home to Los Angeles where he faces Santiago (12-0 4 KOs) in his maiden defence, the unbeaten Dominican talent, who turns 25 the day after the fight, will be on looking to derail Haney's reign as champion at the first hurdle.
"I'm happy we got this deal done," said Haney. "I'm not just a WBC World Champion that's holding somebody else's belt. I'm the sole champion, and I will defend the Lightweight World title on November 9. I've been working hard and I'm extremely focused. This will be the perfect gift to myself for my 21st birthday.
"All the fans at STAPLES Center and the millions watching on DAZN, are going to witness another dominant performance. I'm going to continue to show the world that I'm the best in my division.
"Alfredo Santiago is my next opponent; he's undefeated, he's hungry, and he's coming to win. I take every fight very serious and this fight is no different. Tune in next Saturday and you'll see that the hype is real."
"First and foremost, I would like to thank Matchroom Boxing and Fresh Productions for this opportunity," said Santiago. "This is the moment that I've been dreaming of since I was a kid, and the one I've been waiting for since I became a boxer. I am physically and mentally ready, and I am going to show who the best 135lber in the world is.
"Mr. Haney is a formidable fighter who chose the wrong opponent. He cannot beat me. I belong to 'The Terror Squadron', the best boxing team in the world. This is my time."
"I am delighted to see Devin defend his World title on November 9," said promoter Eddie Hearn. "We're going to have a huge crowd of new fight fans at the arena and tuning in all around the world to watch KSI and Logan Paul, and Devin is the perfect fighter to showcase what boxing is all about to a potential crop of new fight fans - he's young, exciting, confident and relatable - the perfect mix.
"Alfredo Santiago is a hungry young fighter himself and this is a golden opportunity for him to halt Devin's charge to superstardom - but I believe that 'The Dream' will shine and being his reign as World champion in style."
Haney's clash with Santiago is part of a huge night of action in Los Angeles as YouTube sensations KSI and Logan Paul clash in a rematch of their controversial draw - this time as professional fighters.
Billy Joe Saunders (28-0 13 KOs) makes his American debut and defends his WBO World Super-Middleweight title against unbeaten Argentine Marcelo Coceres (28-0-1 15 KOs), and he is joined on the card by a quartet of Eddie Hearn's talented rising US stars in Nikita Ababiy (7-0 6 KOs), Diego Pacheco (6-0 5 KOs), Reshat Mati (4-0 ) and Alexis Espino (4-0 3 KOs).

"My father had a passion for boxing," his daughter Megan McCain said. "He loved it for the thrill of achievement, the nobility of struggle, and the dignity of men bloodied but unbowed. His love for boxing and his love for America had a lot in common. That's why he worked tirelessly to protect and elevate the sport - making it an arena of integrity for fans and fighters alike.
"That's also why I am honored to join the USA Boxing Alumni Association Hall of Fame to accept their Lifetime Achievement Award on his behalf."
Foreman (pro: 76-5, 68 KOs, amateur: 22-4) was also a three-time World Heavyweight Champion as a pro, in addition to famously winning a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, as well as at the National AAU Championships. Considered one of the greatest amateur boxers of all-time, Breland (pro: 35-3-1, 25 KOs), amateur: 110-1) was a gold medalist at the 1984 Olympic Games in Las Angeles and 1982 World Championships. Frazier's hit list included Muhammad Ali, Jimmy Ellis (twice), Bob Foster and Oscar Bonavena (twice).
Mitchell has been in boxing for more than 60 years, first as a boxer, but he's much better known as a world-class boxing coach. He has been the boxing coach at N. Michigan University for decades, in addition to being head coach of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team, and technical advisor for the 2004 and 2012 U.S. Olympic squads. He was selected as the 1994 USA Boxing Coach of the Year and among the 800-plus national amateur champions he has worked with are Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather and Vernon Forrest. He currently trains 2016 U.S. Olympian and world title contender Mikaela Mayer, who will be in attendance supporting her coach.
A legend in Arkansas boxing, Rodgers has been an outstanding coach and extraordinary cut-man, who has been in the corner of world champions such as Wayne McCullough, Jermain Taylor, Iran Barkley and Tommy Morrison. Ray's decades of service through coaching and mentorship for the youth of Arkansas have established him as a role model and inspiration for amateur boxing coaches everywhere.
"This year's USA Boxing Alumni Hall of Fame class, as well as Senator McCain, represent the very best of Olympic style boxing, both in and out of the ring,"commented Chris Cugliari, USA Boxing Alumni Association Executive Director. "Their decades worth of service representing themselves inspire us to give back and support current and future generations of champions.
On November 6, 2019, a meeting with Turkish business circles was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during which issues of deepening bilateral Uzbek-Turkish cooperation were discussed.
