Tridents jump to second after extending TKR’s winless run to five

 Cache

Barbados Tridents kept their hopes of a top-two 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) finish alive with a seven-wicket victory over their rivals and defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders

Having restricted TKR to just 134/8, the Tridents got home on the back of Johnson Charles’ 47-ball 55 to leapfrog their opponents and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Hero CPL table.

The Knight Riders, without a win in their last five after starting the season with four straight victories, now need to beat the runaway leaders Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final match of the league phase at Providence Stadium on Friday night to edge back above the Tridents and reclaim second place.

While both teams are safely through to the playoffs, second place is still a big prize. It brings a place in Qualifier 1 against the Warriors and two shots at a place in next weekend’s final. The team that misses out faces going straight to the Eliminator against the Patriots and no second chances.

Tridents in playoffs as Walsh Jr and Gurney spark Zouks collapse

 Cache

Three wickets in an over from Hayden Walsh Jr and a superb spell from Harry Gurney turned the Barbados Tridents’ whole season around as they defended 141/6 to defeat St Lucia Zouks and grab the final 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoff spot in a winner-takes-all clash at the Kensington Oval.

The Tridents looked to be heading out of the competition when the Zouks had got the target down to 31 runs from 28 balls with six wickets in hand, but Gurney then dismissed Hardus Viljoen before Walsh Jr’s three-wicket burst in the next over made it four wickets in eight balls and turned the match on its head.

Their total looked slightly short at the halfway stage, but with the pressure of a win-or-bust situation, and a pitch offering some assistance to the bowlers, it always promised to be a nervous run-chase for the Zouks.

Remembering Cuban Flight 455 brought down by American backed terrorists, October 6, 1976

 Cache
On October 6, 1976, American and CIA backed and trained anti-Communist terrorists brought down Cubana de Aviación Flight 455 with two bombs shortly after it left Barbados headed for Jamaica. 73 people were murdered.

Many of the victims were young adults as they included the entire 24 members of the Cuban national fencing team which had just swept the Central American and Caribbean Championship gold medals as well as six Guyanese students who had been given scholarships to study medicine in Cuba.

After the bombs had detonated the pilot struggled to try to land the plane but realizing all was lost heroically turned it back to sea to crash so as to avoid hitting beaches and resorts in Barbados and undoubtedly saving many lives.

In 2005 an English language remembrance of this terrible crime -- one of so many by the American imperialists and their allies who maintain an illegal and barbaric, cruel economic blockade and embargo against Cuba still, 60 years after the revolution -- was published in Cuba. It can be seen below.

It includes statements by the terrorists involved and the heartbreaking recollections of those who lost loved ones.
"The person who suffered most was Ninoska, the eldest daughter who was 13 years old at the time. She made an album of all the photos she had of her father and everything that appeared in the press. She is the one who spends the most time looking at the photos".

Re: WATSON in Guyana

 Cache
Hi Staysi,

I have just seen this message now....My William Watson had ten children with his wife, but the family rumour is that he had illegitimate children, so its quite possible. As far as we know, though, he never visited Scotland - he would go to Barbados to visit his half-brother when he had leave time every four years. He died in BG, at the Albion estate, in 1945, and is buried there. Is your grandmother's sister able to add anything to the story?
